icon5.gif  1G Head bolt Torque tension figures?? Thu, 25 November 2004 07:56 Go to next message
Does anyone know the torque bolt setting for the head. I am replacing the head gasket and I need to know what torques setting to tighten them to. Also the setting for the cam cup holders… or how ever you call them (I think cam shaft bearings) I need those torque settings. Anybody be able to help me at all. I know others have replaced heads before me on this tread so this is my best hope of finding this out.

Also any other torques setting i might need when pulling the head off, that someone knows off and i might have missed??
Thanks

If you talk to your local Toyota dealer, preforably one that has an import parts division, they can get the info for you, but they may charge a small amount for the service.

If you get stuck, Call James at Castle Hill Toyota (Sydney), He is really good with import parts, and knows what he is talking about. Sorry I can't help you out with a closer dealer.

Following are Torque values for 1GGTE.
Cylinder Head = 48ftlbs / 64nm
Camshaft Retaining Caps = 14ftlbs / 19mn
Cam Gears = 29-39ftlbs / 40-53mn
Main BRG Caps = 43ftlbs / 59nm
Con Rods = 36ftlbs / 49nm
Harmonic Balancer = 130ftlbs / 177nm
Flywheel Bolts = 54ftlbs / 74nm
Exhaust manifold 2 Head = 19ftlbs / 25nm
Inlet manifold 2 Head = 17ftlbs / 23nm

I have more if anyone needs them.
These values were given to me while building my engine and are what i have used. If anyone has conflicting info let me know cause i'm relying on these too.

They match (roughly, i'm talking 0.3nm out Razz)

I was talking to a BMW owner, apparently they torque head bolts up to around 90nm!!! I'd be afraid of breaking something Razz
