RANT: "mainstream" insurance Thu, 25 November 2004 09:36 Go to next message
they suck!! today i called them to get insurance for my car and when they asked if i had modifications i asid yes. they asked what i had done and i said i had put on "mag wheels" (im trying to sound noob-ish on the phone) and the lady asked what size were they. i then said 15x6.5 and she said that "they" couldnt insure me, told me to have a nice day and hung up. WTF?!?1111 i idnt even get to the part where i told her i swapped my engine. [/rant]

has anyone had this problem before?

Well, thats nothing, here in NZ, the main insurance companys wouldnt touch me with a STOCK 86 Corolla GT. "Because its got GT in the name". And when I rang up and acted dumb and said im not sure of the model, it was still $1000 a year. I also got quoted $2200 a year for a standard TA22 and $3500 a year for a 97 AE111 Levin.

Now I pay $1300 a year full insurance on my nana car.

I realy feel like ringing up and saying I want Insurance on my brand new Ferrari and see what they would say.

Edit: And before you say bad driving history. Ive never crashed or had a speeding fine and im 21.

the online quoting system is going to rape your p00 hymen

the way to get cheap insurace is to ring and not get a quote but negotiate instead.

I sometimes get the impression from Shannons that they try and assess the driver personally.
Like sometimes you call up and you get a shitty guy who tells you they won't touch you, then one time i rang up to put my mate on the policy for a road trip to byron bay. Got to talking with the guy and tried to sound very honest and mature with him, and they did it for free! despite the fact that he is younger and has a bad driving driving history (speeding etc.)

The other time was when i was with a mate at the sydney motor show who wanted to get a quote for an imported GTR R32. We went up to the Shannon's guy (three car fanatic guys) and asked him about it and my friend was kind of joking around a bit and they just said straight out 'no' to him. He then asked what sort of cars they would insure him on and they just told him to go try another company! Even though he has only a minor speeding fine and is the same age as me.

So yeah, i think they really try and do a mini-psychological profile on the driver when they call up to predict their likeliness in driving like a nut and making a claim.

So if you guys call up, talk really responsibly and be honest with them and they might go easy on you....just a theory

hobbs has a good point, you must be honest, if u lie then you void the policy.

any bad history is taken into account by the operator

a % of their desicion is based on the way u present yourself and a % of their desicion how much sand is in their fanny on that particular day Very Happy ....j/k

good thing about that is u can call and ask for someone else later.

Shannons love me and they love my car's

Not every company will agree to revalue your car for 7 grand more on top of agreed value already above market value , over the phone , without seeing it , for a meagre 60 bucks increase on overall price.

Shannons rule Wink

Shannons wouldn't touch me because the car would not have been in a lockup garage at home or work. Everything else was fine, but as soon as I mentioned it would only be undercover parking, they said, sorry we cant help you
