The RTA are just out to make money...

My brother got fined $450 tonight for having a pod filter and an exhaust that is apparently too loud (98dB).. cops tried to do him in for having rims that were too large as well... (17inches on r32, not large enough I say) Ok, I say fair enough if they conflict with the Australian Design Rules for passenger vehicles but what attempt has any government body made in actually educating us on this very matter?
What is and what isn't defective... I think we as a group and car lovers everywhere should actively do something about this... before the government makes more off of us... on to the main point at hand...
Anyone else notice that the RTA are just finding more ways to get money from us... these new test with the red p's and green p's have not made them any safer... the money should be diverted to training programs for the young on defensive driving not where ever else its going... they also charge for those learner booklets as well... to book for a test you have to pay a ludicrous amount... don't they know not all of us are rich?!?! Then there is the issue of paying for the licence which you are now given a choice between the 1year one and the 3year one... renewing on a regular basis means more money for them too... the RTA are a pack of IDIOTS!!!

Any modifications done to a car from standard should have to pass the ADR's. I believe it is up to the person doing the mods, or purchasing a car with mods, to make sure they comply with the ADR's. It sucks, but that is the way it is unfortunately.

LOL i love these posts
another successful whine-fest from one of our fellow opressed car enthusiasts.
heres something for you:
It is your responsibility to make sure the mods you do are legal
else suffer the consequences
It is your responsibility to find out about the mods u can or cant do
else suffer the consequences
It is your responsibility to wipe your own arse and if u cant afford the toilet paper then the RTA shouldnt have to buy it for u
else suffer the consequences of having p00 on your crooked fanny

i agree with the ridiculas Red P and Green P, as tehy seriously do jack all. I went through all that crap and seriously, has it really made me any safer? not really, but one advanced driving course is all it takes to get some 'feel' of your car and make sure you know what to do if you accidently side the back out or does spinner or something.
RTA = Legit Robbers... sif they'd charge me 282bux to transfer my cars name to my fathers... we live at the same place! just a type on the computer, and that costs 282... their legit thieves!!!
I didnt end up doing the transfer, i just bite the dust and paid my insurance with Just Cars as is.... 818bux for 3rd party fire and theift.

hahaha... Rob... its my brothers car... I am the proud owner of a 1993 !!!TOYOTA!!! Celica Trophy Edition... As for the whinging... I like to exercise my right of free speech LoL.
These guys are just money hungry really... I don't see it doing anything but lining their pockets. My mate works as a road designer for the RTA and he tells me about them getting new HOLDEN Crewmans and FORD BA's all the time, updating them yearly. Maybe if they went and lets say got a TOYOTA Hilux, and a few Corollas they wouldn't need to update them every year. As they wouldn't break down like the previously mentioned shit boxes. With the money they save buying these cars and the cars being more fuel efficient maybe they wouldn't need to make up all these damn ways to extort money from us. Oh wait, I forgot... they like to line their own pockets too.
As for ADR thing, I think we as car enthusiast should be freely provided a copy. I mean you hear these government types rant on about how they care about our safety and how incorrect modifications put us in danger and yet for some reason they don't need to think twice about charging us the $70 or so for a copy... can anyone here say TOSSERS?!?!
Oh and biggo, I'm in NSW so I don't know, it may be different from what is allowed there.
I think thats everything covered over the last few post... sorry guys... just a broke uni kid pissed of at this stupid system!

rob one thing though that makes it tough
YES, it is our responsibility to know every single scratch mark of the law or else.
However, unlike our friendly officers of the law, we don't get paid for it, or have the time to be constantly on top of every law and amendment.
It makes it tough, zakumi, I feel for you in that regard, as I have been there myself

everyones money hungry these days thats just how it is, and it wont change until i become supreme ruler of the galaxy.
from what ive heard getting a copy of the ADR's wont help you with modifications. its just a big book of undecipherable crapola.
the RTA has vehicle modification standards in PDF form for free d/l on their website.
someone posted the link to it not long ago ill try and dig it up.

Doesn't really get them off your back. They can still defect you, but since you have an engineers certificate, the inspector just signs it off and you are on your way again. Stupid I know, but so are most things they claim are defects.

Thanks for that Rob... much appreciated... I agree... a lot of people are money hungry these days, but what they are doing is stupid... robbing from the poor. They should have like have like a fee for large capacity cars or something... lets say 4.5litres and above... anyone driving one of those these days with fuel prices what they are should be able to afford more and if my knowledge serves me correctly that clears most of the japanese cars we love so much... maybe no those V8's and stuff aye... oh wellz...

Yes, would be nice if there was a free "Law" hotline, that you could ring up and get someone to give you answeres to your questions about the law. Or perhaps have someone translate the law into normal english and post it online somewhere easy to find.
It horrifies me how hard it is to find out if a POD filter is legal, yet finding out that Britney Spears favorite colour is baby blue took me 5 second just now.

As far as I know pod filters are legal as long as they are enclosed in a box... not sure if you need it certified though... it should just fall under the owner certified category.

But POD filters become illegal if they alter the emissions in accordance with the ADR's

i got pulled over for speeding once and the two cops wanted to check over my car and and i went around and pointed out everything i did to it and showed them my pod filter and also pointed out the fact i still had all the emission pipes connected to it and so forth.
they checked out under the car and checked for a cat ect and in the end they were happy and we ended up talking about rally i was on my way up the coast to work in the service crew.
i find if you are helpfull and honest to the cops and don't try and hide anything then they don't try and sling charges at you.

Stand in-line sonny. I beleive I'm first ruler of the Galaxy and you'll have to wait. In the meantime I'll be creating new laws and amending old ones to make it more difficult for you to become ruler - but I'm not gonna tell you what the laws are or where to get them. You wanna rule, you gotta find this stuff out for yourself. Hmmm... sound familiar?
