What did you pay for your turbo manifold? Mon, 29 November 2004 22:29 Go to next message
Hey Ppls,

Just wondering whats the going rate for a turbo manifold? Im more looking at prices for a 4 cyl but any would do...

Materials?
Log Type?
Tuned Length?
Who made it?

Any info will help Smile

exotic exhausts in Brisbane:
custom head flange
4 (non-tuned) pipes feeding into t03 flange
not log style
1 1/4" steam pipe for runners
brace from engine mount to under turbo (v.important!)
dump pipe with separate w/gate pipe merging into dump
joined to existing exhaust (2 3/4")
$650

(setup is a 2nd-hand T25 being attached to a 18R with custom intake manifold)

I bought my HKS cast manifold for $250USD from an online parts store and had a friend bring it back in. Not tuned length, not log. Top mount turbo.

you should be able to get steam pipe manifolds made from $400 upwards.
dump/supports extra.
steam pipe is the way to go.

Talk about a loaded question!!! price will determine quality - you can get a cheap manifold for $350-400ish new, or you can get an expensive manifold $1000-1200ish new, both to suit a four cylinder.

At the end of the day, both will work, one will work better than the other in certain aspects, and vice versa. Style and price is basically dependant on your requirements and your hip pocket nerve!

I assume u mean a support to reduce the wight of the turbo on the manifold.

If this is the case then it is not essential to brace the turbo when using a steam pipe manifold but is when using stainless steel. This may help you reduce the cost of the manifold.

Steam pipe turbo manifolds dont require braces to stop them from cracking but stainless steel does. However wouldnt hurt to have one.

the brace stops the weight of the turbo, dump pipe, manifold pulling the manifold off the engine - it's not just to re-enforce the welds in the piping.

i'd say it's very important - even stock cast manifolds have braces (well, my 1G does)

Its not essential with steam pipe toyota does tend to over engineer their cars.

I would imagine the brace is there to stop the exhaust manifold from sagging when it gets red hot which causes blown headgaskets and so on. However steam pipe has quite a high thermal capablility.

It is required if you are using a factory computer with a knock sensor. If you remove the braces even from a factory manifold like on the 3S-GTE for example, the engine will appear to be knocking.

true that they are over-engineered, but for my setup which brings the turbo out away from the engine any engine vibration is amplified once there is a degree of flex in the manifold join/clamp.

The leaks i have encountered have been due in part from manifold gasket failure (which allows the manifold to move even more), heat (sagging of turbo), and movement of piping (resulting in external waste gate flanges not lining up and leaking).

The brace helps with the integrity of the actual manifold, but improves the rigidity of the exhaust piping system. it will also prevent zorst-system-pipe movement and vibration from affecting seals around the turbo and wastgate.

cheers,
Charles.

CLG is correct - $400 for a reasonable sort of steam pipe manifold - $800 for a good one, with decent 4 into 1 collector + = length pipes (not tuned - I understand that there is a difference).

$1200 for the same unit with stainless pipes and bracing.

What did I pay for mine? Materials only (materials add up to more than you may first think).
