Alright, i was doing some thinking on my long drive today and some of it was directed towards the new engine build which ill be starting soon. With the new build ill be blueprinting the bottom end as an attempt to determine reliability.

Currently im making the trend towards using blacktop 20v conrods, but i havnt seen any strength ratings for them. Nor have i seen any for any of the conrods for that matter. The calculations i have made say that it will be reaching peak power at around 8700-9000rpm with the 12:1CR and the current 308* cams.

Now does anyone know whether the conrods will stand up to this, and last an entire Improved Production racing season?

"now does anyone know whether the conrods will stand up to this, and last an entire improved production racing season"

That seems a very strange question to ask & I wonder how you could think that anyone, [except perhaps God] would possibly know the answer. It is one thing to say the rods should last a season but another thing entirely to say WILL. Who knows what will happen to an engine in a season's racing.

Cheers
Emmac.

True, i was more thinking about the theoretical strength of the conrods. Whether they last an entire season is a lot different due to the stresses on them and individual differences in the construction process.

I guess i should have asked what is the theoretical SWL of the conrods, i.e. will conrod X generally be able to withstand 500g of piston at 9000rpm?
Whether they will withstand it for an entire season gets a bit too hard to gauge.

I guess it's a question of how much money you have, but could taking a few ideas from the old group A 4AGs be too far off the mark for what you're looking for?

I just had a bit of a look, it appears that the AE92 group A engines used prepped Toyota rods.
