New Car

Well i finaly let go of my camry, although she has served me well, it was starting to give me a few problems, and it was a let down in reliability and performance, so having saved some money, i started looking around for a replacement car. although ultimatley i want an MA61 supra, i needed a daily driver. after much searching in used car lots at corollas and other smaller cars i decided on buying new '04 Hyundai Elantra, i know this is toymods, but i've been so impressed i thought i would post this anyway.
I know that Hyundais generally have a bad reputation both for the poor build quality and ricy image that the excel boughton, however this car breaks that image.
However i was really impressed when i went for a test drive, the 2L HVt engine puts out 104kw@6000Rpm and 182nm@4500Rpm, which is comprarble to a 3sge, but with better economy (8.1L/100km).
Plus it came with a raft of standard features that the corolla couldn't match. Power windows, power mirrors, aircon, mp3 cd player, 15inch mags, spoiler plus more interors and boot space and it ended up costing just under 20k on the road (5 speed).
It drives well and the engine has alot of urge, espically in the higher rev range. The gearbox has well matched ratios and is smooth, however throws are a little long, the clutch and throtle are very light, but feel firm. The handling is typical for a fwd and will understeer if pushed hard enough, the OEM tyres don't have as much grip as i would like but that can be easliy fixed. Build quality and fit and finish were top quality, and the car came with a 5 year 130,000 km waranty.
All in all a great car and a welcome suprise, even for myself.

hmm... my corolla had all those power features as well, i don't know which you were looking at
Glad that you are happy with the purchase, not my cup of tea and just a word of advice, it may say it has 104kw or whatever but i wouldn't bother modifying it. They are a family car, should be treated as such!

Did the Hyundai come with a tube of lube, and some gay guy called Steve? I'm pretty sure I heard they were standard in Hyundai's nowadays

Last i recall, i completely nailed my mates 04 Elantra with the ST162 .. 3SGE with a tiny bit of mods, but so was his...
But honestly, the Elantra 04 has all the stuff you need for comfort, since its a 04 car, it will be reliable hopefully, but its 6 speakers right?
This is just me though, i prefer performance over comfort
Perhaps not a good idea since now-a-days its always getting over 30 degree and my aircon aint working lololol
Good buy i'd say mate!

It's still a Hyundai !
What you save now, you will pay for when you go to sell it. But each to his own.

Hmm i was under the impression that the base model accent was lacking some of those things, well it was too small for my taste anyhow. I don't intend on modifying it either, there isn't much point.

I'm told they depreciate really quickly, But i'm not sure on this so u might want to check that out.
Also what are u buying the car for ?
from what i could gather u need an econmical car to get u from A to B untill u get a work car.
i'm sure u could get something a bit more masculine for 1/2 that ammount of money and still have creature comforts.

Yeah, i did look at XR6s, possible an ma61 a couple of subaru liberty RSs and various other cars. But the insurance was ridiculous for an 18 year old, and most cars i saw had been thrashed somewhat. Im pretty happy with what i got, comming from my sv21 its been a big improvement.

once the 5 years warranty is up you'll find the car starts falling apart and becoming an unreliable oil burner just like all the other korean cars i've seen around that age, they aren't built to last.
The japs engineer cars to last, right down to the increadibly small tolerances, metals (especially where there needed) and less plastic, reliable electronics, stronger more rigid body's etc etc. I mean afterall they've been at it for alot longet then the koreans and besides the japs are just fuckin smart and don't eat dogs.
At least out of all the korean brands i'd rate hyundai at the top.
(deawoo if it last a day woo hoo).
$20k = N/A Mk4 or a 1JZ Mk3 with all the luxry items you'd need plus enough money left over for fuel to last years!
i hate to piss u off like that but u posted it on a toymods.
