Ouch my head. I dropped it. Tue, 30 November 2004 22:21 Go to next message
Hi all, i'm having real shitty luck with my 3tgte build up. Seems everything that can go wrong is happening. Wrong bearings, lost front main seal.. Now i've dropped the head.

My leg broke its fall which is good as my leg will heal up better than alloy does Confused

Problem is when its made its way to the ground one corner has been kinda grazed off the alloy. Here is a pic - see the right hand corner.

Its away from oil galleries, combustion chamber, etc. Think it is going to be ok?

I dont really want to shave it again as its already been shaved twice now in its life.

Thanks
Joel

if it's only outboard of the bolt hole, it should be ok..
if in doubt, put a straight edge along it and see how much is damaged..

Joel, I think it is Fate trying to tell you something.

Or was the fall just the 3T looking at the 3S in the shed and thinking that it might get some practice in at being a boat anchor.

I would make sure the head is true as per stews comments and if all is straight, wack er on.

Haha Anthony very well could be trying to tell me something!

Do you or your dad know anyone in the Hornsby area who could check it out?
Don't feel like taking it all the way back out to Grahams.

Cheers
Joel

Just place a straight edge over the head and measure any gaps with a feeler gauge. A steel ruler that hasn't been used for sword fighting will suffice as a straight edge. Any gap greater than a couple of thou and I would be taking it to someone to get skimmed.

Dad uses some guys in Thornleigh for all his engine recon work. He swares by them, but that could just be because they drag race a charger.

Joel, pretty much what everyone else has said.. as long as the bruise isnt proud, in other words it is pushed away from the face instead of into it, then it will be fine, if there is a bit thats proud check with a metal ruler ( $5-$15 at a decent tool shop ) then use a finger file to slowly smooth it down, its not in a critical area so shouldnt affect the head gasket seal.

Thanks all for your info, it is much appricated! Made me feel better as I was in a rotten mood this morning about the whole thing.

I have a good metal rule so i'll check over it tonight and if needed neaten that corner up with a finger file.

It didn't hit real hard, more rolled down my leg so I think its all going to be ok Smile

Cheers
Joel
