exactly what do you need to make brakes work?

well, my R33 skyline calipers arrived today. I must say they look phat and impressive, but there's something wrong....
it's *only* the calipers! no pads, no nothing - just a bare set of calipers.
What else is required, aside from pads, to make these work? I know anti-rattle shims are desireable... anyhting else?

Get the rebuild kit, and a set of greenstuff pads.
All the calipers need to have are the 2 halves, the 4 bolts that hold it all together, the 2 'pins' to hold the pads in, and the weird t shaped thingo, oh, and the pistons.
Pads come with anti-rattle shims
You can see the pins and the T-piece here.

If you don't have them, complain.

It looks like you have the pad retaining pins, but are missing the wire spring doovy that keeps them in, as well as a large ugl spring clip that holds the pads down against the pins to prevent rattle (as well as the anti rattle shims).

You can see the bits that I am talking about here in the above pic (and you can see nice clean versions in CruZida's thread).
Complain to the supplier. The only real part that you shouldn't do without is the large spring clip.
Cheers
Michael B
PS The seal kit is about $30 for both calipers, and then another $10 for the small seals that go between the halves when you split them. CruZida and I have the part numbers.

what they need, is to be re-built.
any brake/clutch hydraulic part that didn't use that silicone fluid, has been absorbing water vapor since it was exposed to air, and will be pretty corroded in a few days.

In theory yes.
I had mine off a car for about 18 months, and there was little if any corrosion. They weer stored OK, but not airtight.
I 'rebuilt' mine only because I didn't know their previous history, and besides, brakes are pretty important....

You dont need antirattle plates, but they come with new greenstuff pads.
Any yes draven, it looks like you are just missing one top guide plate.
Get one, rebuild them, and be happy
