Hey guys,
Just investigating the relevant costs and complexities of putting a manual transmission into my Chaser. A couple of questions relating to the conversion:
1) Whats the designation for the 5-speed box which mates up to the 1jz? w58?
2) Would a 2jz box (5 and 6 speed out of a Supra) fit up as easily?
3) Would i need to change ECU due to the new transmission?
4) I figure that i would need a the transmission, new pedal box, clutch, master and slave clutch cylinders, and console trim. Anything else? Flywheel?
5) And what ball park would i be looking at for parts, and if i'm too lazy, labour?
Thanks guys!!

1: W58 or R154 for 5 speeds, V160 for 6 speed
2: yep
3: No, but you would probably need to trick it into thinking it was constantly in Nuetral.
4: Think about it, how else will you get drive from the motor to the box - cos I'm sure you're fully (Fooly?!?) aware manual flywheels look nothing like auto flexplates?!!!
5: 2-6Kish, dependant on the type of box, condition of parts, amount of labour, ...

I just re-read my post and realised how much i need more coffee Was meant to have flywheel in the first list of parts!
hmmmm, 2.5k i could do.... more than 3.5k would start to hurt. Maybe i should have got a manual in the 1st place...

And don't expect your cruise control to work after this.

Funny thing is I *dont* have cruise control... ABS, TRC, headlights that swivel up and down, but no Cruise Control... which is a pain in the ass to be honest!

Then it DEFINATELY won't work after the conversion.
Cross that off the list of worries

378,000 yen?!?! Sweet Jesus... thats just under 5K for parts alone....
The reason why i'm actually looking at a manual is because i've found the shift strategy on the auto to be the crappiest in any auto car i've driven. Am i the only one who thinks this is the case, or is this a trait of the auto's?
What i'm talking about is that peak torque is developed around 2400 rpm with my 1jz, but for some reason the ECU seems to think that on light to medium throttle, downsifting is the way to go rather than leave it in the current gear and build up.
