Digital Speedo not functioning. Thu, 02 December 2004 00:56 Go to next message
Well I was driving around today to get Looonie's new gearbox as his shat itself this morning and my speedo started going wild.

Now from what I can make out is this....when I go over about 50kph the speedo does not change from saying 0 and when I'm below 50kph it constantly jumps up and down to any random number. I'm not exactly sure on the 50kph as the speedo doesn't work but i'm guessing around that mark as I was following other cars in a 50 zone to check when it started and when it stopped.

It's an auto JZZ30. Now Looonie told me that they have some sort of a digital speedo sender mounted on the box and will be piss easy to change. Basically the equivelant to a normal speedo cable.

Problem is getting hold of one of these if it is this.

Can anyone shed some more light as to what exactly the problem might be? Anything I can test to double check? If it is the unit on the box where can I get one from at a semi decent price?

Thanks in advance.

sounds like the speedo cable has unclipped itself from the back of the dash, try take the dash off and see if the speedo cable is fully in.

from the EPC it looks like its not a cable driven speedo, but rather a sensor that bolts onto the gearbox.

For an automatic JZZ30, the part number is 83181-24050

They are piss easy to change. Well on my GT4 it was anyway.
