1GGTE question
|
Thu, 02 December 2004 11:29
|
 |
Before anybody says anything i have done a search but i didn't find anything to tell what their weak spots are.
I'm asking this because i'm hopfully getting a car with one in it and what to know where and what to check when i've got it.
Also does anybody know where i can find how much my SA63 lift back weighs compared to my mates SA63 sedan ?????
Thanks for answering the Noobish questions in advance

2 litres suits me fine
I'm 19 and it's going into an SA63 lift back it's pretty much the perfect motor for what i need.
I can't afford to pour petrol money into some huge donk.

I'm not going to own a car over 2 litres for a long time.
I simply don't want one . I had a 4.2 litre car once i would never have it as a everyday car ever again.
also the lest time it take me to get up to the speed limit the less time my foot is flat to the floor.
And it puts out a reasonable amount of power enough for what i want it for .
I just need to know if there are any places i should check on regularly ?

Obviously a dinosaur carby engine doesn't count.
I'm talking motor with some technology only.
And no, just check the normal things.

A 1jz is the perfect solution.. fits in exactly the same... 2.5 litres.. mine uses 8.3l/100km... powerful and nice

after you have test driven it open the oil filler and look for any smokey stuff. Look for oil around the turbos as the seals may be on their way out.
Check things like hoses are all ok, not really hard and brittle.
Check the colour of coolant, hopefully nice and red. If it is brown there may be rust in the cooling system which is what happened to my old 1g.
if it is milky like oil in there, get the F**K out of there!

compare the cost of a 1G conversion to the cost of a 1JZ
also getting it enginered and the rest.
if i'm ever allowed to get a 2nd car then i might do the 1JZ conversion to an SA63 but no where in the near future.

2 litres = gutless piece of crap off boost...but really its a powerhouse Hence why im going 2jz...but thats a different story.
My fuel economy for daily driving the Supra is ~14 litres to the hundred...~400 kays to a tank.
Check for the general, oil leaks, coolant and oil colour, ie no appearance of rust and not milky. Otherwise, yeah. They arent bad engines really, personally i think they're a lot stronger then a 7m *wheres my flame suit* but yeah, if it looks clean and doesnt make any weirdass noises...go for it. Just dont expect heaps of power from it...like 200 at the wheels would be a comfortable figure for it.

well i've been scared off 7M for ever i've heard of soooo many people getting BHG's it's not funny.
Well aslong as it is a far bit quicker than my 2 litre 2sc then i'm happy.
I'd hope to get close to 500 kms a tank but i'd assume it's not likely no matter how i drive.

1) You don't want a 7MGTE in an SA63 if you want the thing to turn
2) A 1G returns fantastic economy providing you aren't always up it. This is partly why lardass GZ20 Soarers and GA70 Supras use so much fuel.
3) In a light car like an SA63 they would well and truly boogie without having to work it hard, also a problem when in barge ass cars.

If your concerned about fuel economy dont even bother with a turbo car. If your anything like me your gonna thrash the balls of it and end up using fuel either way

but the option is there to not boost and make great savings from a low compression engine

I don't drive like a fool all the time so it should be ok .
But every now and then i will without doubt be blowing the spider webs out of it.
Frank even tho there is very little chance of me doing it what is wrong with putting a 7M in an SA63 ?????????

my old gz20 would do 10km/L just general driving, about 6.5km/L when hammering it. And one time when I had to drive on the highway with the space saver at 70kms, 12kms/L. Not bad for a lardass

Go take a good look at a 7MGTE, then go have a look at your engine bay. Now wander back and forth between the two until you come to the realisation of just how massive and heavy a 7MGTE is.

I sometimes wonder if I should build up a 3S-GTE to replace the 1G-GTE later on... 3S would have to has less rotating mass, similar torque, and good potential for power... only they aren't native RWD engines
I suppose the 1G-GTE fills an engine bay nicely!

I was looking at a 3s conversion for my SA63 but decided to go with a 1g if i did do the conversion.
just cuz of the power and the ease of installing.
I wanted a motor that did have to work as hard to get to the same speeds as the 2sc

The 3SGTE is the 'ideal' swap, actually, but is a much more expensive & difficult conversion.

More like "damm I have a lot of work to do beofore this big paperweight gets in my engine bay, and I really can't be bothered right now."
