After having someone wave somthing I couldn't resist in front of my face I have decided to sell my 18R-GEU setup from my Celica (as well as a kidney and a lung ) I am selling all the required parts to convert you RA23/28 to 18R-GEU (poss. RA40 as well).
List of what is in the package:-
18R-GEU - 2.2lt (22re pistons) cam reground.
Wiring Loom - A little scrappy but it works, could really do with a tidy up
ECU - Original 18R-GEU computer
AFM - Original AFM.
Extractors
2 1/4 inch exhaust system.
Lifter pump
Hi-Pressure pump
Surge tank
This engine has about 40,000k on since rebuilt, and is currently still in the car so it can be heard running. PM for price or make an offer. this is all original 18R-GEU Gear, and a nice power up over the stock 18r-c for daily driving.
Cheers
Simon.

No turbo, and no - its not suitable for a 1986 ST162 Celica. With most States in Aust. not allowing you to fit engines older than the car they are going into, its not on the cards. The 18RG-GEU finished production (I believe) in late 1982.
And anyway, its an R series RWD motor that you want to fit where an S series FWD engine and transaxle would normally be.....its just plain wrong from every engineering point of view, and there is just no point or value in doing this conversion.

I suppose you're not interested in separating the ECU and AFM are you?

Preferably not as it makes what is left harder to sell.
I believe that the 5M-GE ecu/AFM is compatable with the 18R-GEU efi setup. Do a search on it as when I was looking for wiring diagrams I kept getting 5M Diagrams.
Cheers
Simon.

Ok Simon, I figured I was being a bit hopeful, there.
I reckon the only problem with using a 5mg set up is that it would be working out injector pulses for 6 cylinders rather than four.
I don't know much about this though.

Thanks for the offer but I've already got a 22RE ECU and AFM and a 2SE ECU and AFM, I really only wanted the 18RGEU bits for legalities and for sentimental reasons, originality and all that. (I won't mention the sentimental side of the Apexi SAFC right now, that wouldn't strengthen my case!)
Thanks anyway guys.

FYI the 5M and 18R-GEU batch fire their injectors so having two sets of 3 or two sets of 2 shouldn't make any difference (?)

I'm going to try to get the car to Dyno day before I pull the engine out to get a power figure in its rather Untuned state.

(smacks forehead) Duh, I knew that. I guess I've learned too much from this site, I'm already starting to forget bits.
Even though it runs on banks, the 5MG computer is working out how much fuel is needed for a (fractionally ~34ml) smaller cylinder.
That was what I was thinking at the time, but now I've had a look at it, there should be bugger all difference anyway. The 5ME Aus version even used a 3 pin TPS and large throttle body (like 18RGEU rather than 22R which also bolts on but doesn't fit as good.)
Thanks for reminding though

Just curious which 22R pistons you used, late model flat tops or early model dome tops?

To be honest I really don't know But I suspect they are of the flat top Variety. I am going to pull out a plug and check som measurements before the engine is paced on a crate to confirm a few things for my next engine. I should be able to work out if they are flat top of not.
