well they are in tempe, hence the name "tempe tyres"
apparently they have a huge range and cheaper than the rest. They offer interest free etc which attracts a lot of people to them.

I've been there, its not far from where I live. I was asking about a set of 17*7's for my TA22 with 205/40/17. I was after something other than Simmons. They had some nice big chrome rims there. The salesman told me they would bolt straight onto the early model Toyota's without spacers? I wasn't totally convinced but there was a couple of young guys in the car park with an early model Corolla. They had it jacked and were in the process of trying them out. I didn't speak to the guys with the Corolla which was silly. I created a post about 17" rims a while back, but I didn't really find the technical answers to my problem.
Tempe Tyres seems like the place to go if you have a nice late model beast and your thinking about slamming a big set of 20" rims under the guards. They seem fine but I get the feeling they have adapted the moto "money talks and bullshit walks" in others words lets do a deal or move on please, no time wasters.
Its a busy place and looks like a very successful business.

Justin

I've been there. I wasn't impressed with the young guys attitude. I was after prices for BBS and he kept trying to flog me some crappy chrome wheels, probably because they make more margin on it.

Dude have a look at www.tyres.com .
My friend went there and got a Cannon muffler, he said they were very helpful and good to talk to, he also said the prices were pretty good.
There website has pics of most of the rims that they sell.
I have emailed them about prices and they got back to me in about 1-2 days.

I've never bought tires from Australias Best but I go there for normal stuff (balancing, etc) and the staff there are always really curteous and helpful.

After the crap service at Tempe Tyres, I headed straight to Australia's Best Tyre. Asked them about the BBS and Simmons and they told me what I wanted to know. Was actually thinking about the Racing Simmons but was worried about finding a tyre that would fit 17" and 6.5 wide, being an odd size.

They then told me that a customer had just driven in a brand new Celica ZZT231, driven straight from the dealer, and exchange the factory 15" 5 twin spoke Alloys with near new 205/55 tyres. I took it off them for $1050 and I wasn't even planning to buy anything that day.

ive also purchased a set of tyres from australias best and would recommend them as well, very friendly, helpful and fast, the wheels were off my car before i even told them what rubber i had ordered...

perhaps one of the board members could approach them and see if they'd like to sponsor the club.

Nothing but good words about Australia's Best from me too. Great customer service IMO. I supplied new rims which I had purchased elsewhere & they were only too happy to fit the tyres that I bought from them.

I've also seen a great variety of cars in there from your average mums & dads types to some pretty serious WRXs and a couple of old Celicas.. Just goes to show that they deal with all types, and not just BMWs and GTRs with 20inch chrome wheels & big Tempe Tyres stickers across the winscreen Wink

for the gritty, "gotta haggle but youll get a great deal" option, try Milperra Tyres 0297922999, 7 bullecourt ave milperra.

their tyres are about the same as most cheap tyre places 'before' haggling, but they have a HUGE range in stock, and if youre with it, you can bargain them down maybe $10-$15 per tyre. fitting and balancing is automatically free so no surprises, plus theyll accomodate weired requests you might have such as "can you take this one off and swap it onto the spare rim, but then keep this wheel on there, but rotate the tyres this way..." etc etc...

service is quick but a bit icy, and you gotta be a haggling salesman type of guy to make the most of it.

cheers

I got screwed by those guys big time in Milperra. I wouldn't go down there ever. Aussie's Best has the thumbs up for me.

I may be bordering on libel with this post, but here goes.

Tempe is scary. I've been there once-with a mate who wanted to buy gear from them,as they were near his place.

he bought a set of wheel nuts, which needed a special tool to fit and remove them. I spoke up when the tool they supplied was way too small to do the job without rounding itself, and the nuts.
(imagine using a 7mm allen key to take out 7.5 capscrews that are TIGHT)
we got another tool straight away, which was ok. our service was ok,but what I saw while I was there was what scared me.
no centre hub rings being used, several cars with 1/2" spacers on std studs(also with no locating rings),and so on...

one job they did I have seen first hand was an S15 silvia they put 19's on. now part of this is the owner's fault as he "just had to have 19's" on his car,but the rest falls on the shop for how they were fitted: to get 19x7.5's under the guards, they fitted FF offset wheels to the front. the spokes of these fouled the callipers,so the solution? grind the spokes away, until it clears. I'm not talking a mm or two here,I'm talking a full inch of material was removed with a die grinder from the inside of the wheel spokes.
thankfully the guy was defected a couple of weeks later, and has now removed the wheels.

pleasing the customer is one thing, but doing things that are just downright dangerous to achieve that aim is not right.
you couldn't pay me to buy from them.

Justin...

the exhaust systems at Australia's Best are also second to none. If yourlooking at tempe tyres, also check out Ozzy Tyres about another 5 mins down the road, just turn right at Forest Rd.

I realise I might cop some flack for this But I can't stand places like this !! Personally I prefer the Old fashion wheel and Tire places. (Such as Ace Tyres at St Mary's or Marks n Wallings at Ryde) I have had no bad dealings with either Tempe Tyres or Australias Best other tha the fact that they happily will sell you the wrong wheels and Tyres. Hell they could not even tell me the OD of the tyres I was Pricing !!! I mean Bugger me haven't they heard of legal limits ??

It seems that these "NEW" tyres places have no regards for your safety, rego or insurance. I mean Sure I can get a set of cheap arse Chome 16" x 7" rims with ultra low profile wide rubber and they may even be the cheapest. Mind you if I''m defected the next day because they are not a legal fittment is it really a cheap set of wheels and tyres !

I know is all great to get that big rim tiny tyre look happening but I prefer to shop somewhere that has my best interests and not the content of my wallet as its main focus. I like it when I say what about this (Say 16" rims on a TA22) and the guy says we can BUT I strongly reccomend against it because of X Y and Z not Sure no worries but I need an Angle Grinder and they will foul on my stearing !!!!

Sorry I guess I am just getting old !

Oh and in Case you were wondering I got exactly what I wanted in a legal fitment from Marks N Wallings. They just took the time to look into it ! Smile

Ozzy Tyres are really dodgy! I've been told too many bad things from members. Apparently they got busted for not paying customs duty. Another person got stuffed around by them, but luckily their got their deposit back. Then there are the stories of crappy chrome wheels that peel and fade. They also have a bad attitude on the phone.

It's the same deal as with anywhere you go to buy anything - buyer beware!

I've purchased tyres from Tempe Tyres, Australia's Best, Mathews Tyres and Curtis Brothers in the last 15 years in the Sydney area - I have no gripes with any of them.
They are all businesses and will sell you anything you ask for regardless of insurance, safety, legal issues and they all push their bottom line not yours - they need to make money to keep the doors open not save you money.
If I want tyre or wheel advice, I'll ring around or drive in to the more established companies - once I make up my mind based on advice, reasearch and gut feeling - I'll ring any of the 4 above as they are close and very competitive on prices. In recent times, Tempe Tyres has developed a reputation for selling good quality cheap tyres - I'm getting 2 tyres fitted there Saturday!
My worst experience in the last few years was at Australia's best with a pushy salesman tryng to sell me something I did not want and ignoring my repeated request for pricing on a specific brand/model of tyre - I can't judge them on this incident alone as it does not represent the company, only one individual sales rep with his own agenda on the day. At the same time i've also received very good service at Australia's best with emergency suspenion, flat and alignment repairs on weekends when nobody else gave me the time of day.
Do your reserach, make up your mind and be upfront with what you want and what your expectations are and generally everyone is satisfied.

ozzy tyres , tempe tyres! both owned by the same mob so i presume they would be the same
ive heard also delete this if its pushing the limit
of selling huge rims like 21" then selling peoples details on where to get them
probably serves themselves right for getting ridiculously large rims

Steve,

The billets are made in Australia by Dragway. I have had them a long time now (about 3 years) and they sat in the boxes unopened for most of that time.

They are a 2 piece billet so were at the more expensive end of things If I ad got steel outers they would have been cheaper.

Wheels were $615 per corner Custom made for me to my offset request. Tyres were only $150 each.

If I had the chance to order them again I would prolly get 6 1/2 fronts and 7 inch rears. if I can squeeze them in. With the 16" x 6" rims I am limited to only 1 or 2 legal tyre sizes within my legal OD range and neither are standard sizes ! Sad

Just need to work on the engineer to get 7" rims approved for the rear Smile

I only use Tempe Tyres to purchase my Azenis RS, because they are well priced for these tyres....Besides that I just pick the tyres up and get the guys who do my wheel alignments and stuff to fit em for me. Wouldnt trust Tempe as far as I can throw em...

I agree!!!! I got my AME's from Big O's and they were hundreds of dollars less than everywhere else at the time. I also got the much better chromed steel ones (as opposed to cast alloy)
I wouldnt hesitate going back there at all, very sppedy service as well.
