if done some searching but cant pinpoint exactly what is needed to do this...ive read about using a 22re crank and pistons and another says just use the crank with 18rgu 9.7-1 pistons...what exactly is the best setup to use. is it worth it or should i just keep the standard 9.7-1 pistons, big cams, big valves and lightened flywheel??? keeping in mind i already have a turbo rg so i donot wanna go down that road...

Most people who have dabbled with stroker 18R-G's report it is NOT worth it. Frankly I wouldn't bother.

As norbie said the results arn't worth the hassle unless you really want a tough N/A. you end up with a torquey engine but I'd still like to add a turbo.
you can take an 18R-G out to 2.2lt by running 22R-E pistons on the standard 18R-G rods/crank. Going out to 2.4lt involves a crap load more mucking around and the rods are hard to find. and crank needs machining to suit block.

do i just use the 22re pistons on the 18rg rods???do they fit. does it involve boring the 18rg out much? i was told that u use the 22re crank for best results. is that right or should i stick to the 18rg crank....we dont want huge power but we want go mid range torque etc without adding a turbo....we also are getting a bit of head work done.

using the 22R crank strokes it to 2.2, using 92mm pistons takes it to 2.2L, or combine makes it approx 2.4L, massive torque, good for a hi-boost drag car with auto

Although probably useless info, but the 21R and 22R crank is the same. Rods are same, just pistons are different.

so do i use the 22re pistons on the 18rg rods and just bore it out to suit??? i have access to a 21r and 22re under my house so parts are easy...would this be better then using 9.7-1 18rg pistons....i think ill wait before i go using the 22re crank though

There are 2.6L stroker kits for the 22R... I imagine they could be adapted to the 18R-G with enough effort. Don't be fooled into thinking this will make the engine any better than a well-developed 2.0 litre 18R-G though.
As for maximum power, that depends entirely on how many zero's you're willing to write on your cheques. Speed costs money.

MR DOHC just spent about 3g and he is still only got around 160 hp..its not what you would call a fast drag car yet...and its destroyed his bottum end already so now he has to build one to suit the head work

as previuosly said horsepower and more importantly reliabilty doesnt come cheap but 3grand on a head will go a long way but the other thing you will need to do is up the compression to utilise the head modifications. As we all know its never as simple as a standard bottom end with big ports and throwin a set of high lift cams in.If you are gonna do it prop. start with choosing cams and decide what its main use will be ,street or race then do the ports etc no need to change to bigger valves, then do pistons to increase compression and the list goes from there but set yourself a realistic target and budget

IMO unless your building a historic racer, for money spent you're much better of ditching the 18rg for something newer. Parts are a lot easier to get and conversion costs should be easily justified compared to the price of a decent 18RG build up.
