dyno celica with turbo upgrade

Hello, had the Celica tuned/dyno'd on the weekend with the new ct20b turbo/custom exhaust manifold/intercooler & 550cc injectors.
I was very happy with the results. Previously it was in the mid 80's kW at the toymods dyno day(stock turbo, no intercooler).
Now it has pretty much doubled at 167 kW.

Nice dude! You must be happy!
Seems a bit iffy after 4500rpm though. Any ideas what that could be?

Dont mean to put a damper on things but please note:
"Power at: Engine Torque at: engine temp compensation: YES"
These settings on the dyno make for a significant increase compared to the way the cars were run on the dyno comp. Perhaps 30% inflated.
Still a great result though.

Just noticed that it says that it was done in 3rd gear.
That'll give some torque multiplication too.
Don't know how much though.

Power at: Engine means that the software would try to figoure out a FLYWHEEL figure...
Torque at: engine temp compensation: YES means that the software sould try to "compensate" for an engine that's hot... One trick dyno operators use is to turn this on and stick the temperature probe in something that's REALLY hot, thus more compensation for the heat.....
Dyno tricks used by dodgy dyno operators.

The temp probe was placed on the top of the shock tower, with bonnet up. So my guess would be pretty cool temperatures there.

Temperature compensation if used at all I'm pretty sure is an atmospheric temp compensation.
ie. it tries to compensate for a hot day or other atmospheric conditions.
i dont know if temp compensation was switched on for dyno day 5, maybe someone could post up if it was.
Usually in dyno comps or honest power runs it is switched off.
What really counts is what car actually put down to the rollers ie. Tractive effort.
Without corrections.
temp compsation would be insignificant anyway compared to the adjustment made for drivetrain losses. I have heard figures for rwd's quoted as anything between 12 to 33 %. It depends on the motives of your tuner as to what he will apply.
it is odd in any case that he would print a engine figure rather than a RW figure anyway.
all things considered, I reckon Joels 3t is making at least 120 kw at the wheels, which is better than mine EVER ran and he should be proud of a great result.
Joel, dont miss the next dyno day !!!

I think it's switched off for our dyno days. Either that or the compensation isn't that great.
The figures from Dyno Day 4 (40 degree temps) were a few kW lower than from Dyno Day 5 on the same cars.
TurboRA28, make sure you come to Dyno Day 6!!!

Nice result no matter what the factors mate, all that matters is that i'm sure it feels unreal from the drivers seat!
how much boost are you running with the CT20B? Do you have any pictures of the new manifold and turbo setup?
GO THE 3TGTE!!!!!!!!
Cheers
Phil
BTW: How the f@#k is the difference between 3rd & 4th gear supposed to be so significant when if you could have a 3.7:1 or 4.4:1 diff ratio working as a multiplication factor anyway????

Howdy, its running around 20psi. There are a few pics at www4.tpg.com.au/helenftz .. Need to be updated though as I think they are all pics of the setup off the car.
Eastern creek 14.2 was with this setup, but since then has been tuned for another 4psi.

How do they know what rpm the engine is doing?
Do they use an inductive pickup wired to the dyno PC?

So.... when and where is this dyno day 6 at? I will bring the celica down and strap her on the rollers if it is finished, if not i will still come down for a look (if its in the Melb area anyway!)

Phil,
Mate here is a pic of Joels Engine bay at the creek on the night.
(Hope thats ok Joel ? )
Timbo,
Mate the Dyno Day has its own thread in Cruises and Events and is held at Premier Auto in Western Sydney in January next year. Be great to see you there. There are generally a few from South of the border who cruise up including the last Dyno Days overall Winner.
