Converting Headlights Tue, 07 December 2004 23:47 Go to next message
Hey people,

Ive got a 82 celica, the ones where the headlights flip forward instead of "popping up". I dont mid the lights when theyre up, but when theyre back the car looks retarted! I was wondering if anyone knows if its possible to replace them with the "normal" pop up lights of the later 3rd gen celicas?

cheers, andy

To replace the headlights with the RA65 ones, you basically have to replace the whole front bit.

I pondered the idea on my RA60 and decided it wasn't worth the hassle.

Ahhh, I have tried this.

There is a LOT that needs to be swapped over.

The bumper, re-enforcement behind it, the bonnet, the grill, headlight brackets, indicators, the bonnet latch even! and more.

The plugs for the headlight servo motors are different. The brackets for the headlights have studs in the top instead of nuts welded on. So you either have to drill out the studs on the brackets, or drill out the nuts welded to the car to have em bolt on.

You can use the original bonnet latch, but the little handle u reach for is in an akward spot.

I would strongly suggest you just dont bother. Its not worth doing.

Cheers,
James
