Hi Guys, I have a 1992 Aus MR2 with a 3SGE engine.
only mods being a new stainless exhaust but still uses the factory exhaust manifold and cat converter.
Also have a modified primary airbox and unifilter foam filter.
I was thinking about getting the cams ground and maybe some other internal engine stuff too.
where would you guys recommend to go for the cams and what cost and performance gain is likely etc etc
Thanks

to put some real cams in you need to change to a shim under bucket ,any more lift and you could spit the shim out in the current configuration also need new retainers and new valve springs and buckets from a gen 3 and 16new shims

IMO for a performance increase you should either gut the cat (illegal) or preferrably get extractors/downpipe setup with a high flow cat lower in the exhaust setup.
(this is speaking from a turbo POV but the theory is the same), this should give you a flatter power curve with a bit more up top. Next step would be either a K&N panel filter replacement, or a pod filter and snorkel.
After this the engine should be breathing about as well as it can then you will have a good baseline for internal mods

already have the higher flowing filter in and i have heard extracters on an mr2 are a problem because you then have to take them off to remove the oil filter.
you could maybe relocate the oil filter but it's all a pain in the butt.....
so bottom line is... don't bother
