Where's the diagnostic connector on a twincam 'rolla?

Got the 4AGE back together after new hg, timing belt, and reco head, and I've got to set the base ign timing. Unfortunately, the 4A manual i've got is for a different model corolla so it's not much use for this (mine's an AE82 may '86) I know the pins i've got to short are TE1 and E1, but i've NFI where the connector is. Toyota service said a rectangular connector with "DIAG" on it in the far right corner of engine bay, but there's *nothing* remotely matching that description (which sounds identical to what the book said, so he could have got the wrong car..) Everything in the far right corner is circular and dust-capped, nothing rectangular in sight..
So, if you were a DIAG connector, where would you hide?

I don't believe they have one?
Something about having to bridge two terminals of the ECU together, and then the ECU will flash the check-engine light to form codes for faults???
Something like that.
If you get stuck, I could possibly photocopy the relevant page of my Haynes manual for USA AE86. Same engine, could be of some help to you.
Cheers
Chris
