Last RWD Celica to come out was? Mon, 14 October 2002 07:50 Go to next message
Hi,

I'm asking for a friend that is interested in purchasing a RWD Celica. He would like to know what the latest model to come out was. Any other useful information would be great, like common/popular engine swaps. Problems that arise in certain models and that sort of stuff. Smile

Cheers.

There's a page in the tech section of the actual toymods website, not the forums of popular and possible engine swaps for all models of Toyota's... It's very useful... Take a look...

The RA65 was the last of them and was replaced in 85/86 by the FWD ST14x.

Best bang for the buck swap is the 1G-GTE.

RA60---> SA63---> RA65, as far as I know. Dont think it was ever more than a one-car lineup.

Yeah, the SA63 appeared for a little bit in between the two R-series cars and was basically the same as the RA65 as far as I could tell, only with a 2S-C.

lol thanks for all the help people. Smile 1ggte's are quite cheap and sound like an excellent value for money transplant.

why is the 1g-gte the best bang for buck option ?

if you have to weld in new crossmembers and engine mounts would the best bang for buck be a motor with a shitload more power/potential

like a 2jzgte or a 1uzfe or 2uzfe ?

hell i even considered the 1fzfe thats a crazy amount of torque, that thing would launch at the lights, and its the same weight nearly as the stock 22re/21rc in a ra65/ra60

p.s. i am halfway through my 22re engine build so its not going to be ready for a while considering the amount of projects i have and now i have my first customer since the shop has opened two weeks ago who wants a mini cooper s mark 2 fully restored and a heap of trick work done to the motor, so everything is on hold for a couple of weeks until that shit is sorted out, but its all getting there....

FWIW my next purchase will be a sa63, but seeing as they only came in grandma 'lets go shopping girls' hatch mode i will have to transfer everything to the radically improved coupe shape so that a 3sgte may be fitted and then its for sale, stay tuned guys

cheers a lot
wayne

Wouldn't the concept of stuffing a 2JZGTE into an RA60/65 require a lot more bucks than a 1GGTE conversion? I may just be a humble Corolla driver, however I would take Bang For Your Buck to mean that somewhere along the line you're trading off possible performance gains for the costs/difficulties involved?

Please someone, correct me if i'm wrong...? Rolling Eyes

The SA63 was available as a coupe I'm pretty certain anyway. The only differences between the SA63 and RA65 is the engine, cloth trim pattern and the RA65 had a check engine warning light. That's about it as far as I know. Oh and the 2.0 and 2.4i badges on the boot.

Yes, lots more. Apart from the cost of the engine itself, cramming it into an RA6x engine bay is going to be all manner of pain. Sure it could be done (in fact it has been done), but I wouldn't attempt it.

JZ engines are quite big. If you want one, put it in a car that's designed around a big six. An MA61 for example!

Fitting a 2JZ into a RA6X Celica would be a bitch because of the thing being so long, even if you could fit it in, there would be so much weight over the front the thing would be VERY reuluctant to turn.

The concept of a 1UZFE is good, although it costs a fair bit if you want to have a manual version because you have to buy aftermarket bits.

For the $$'s outlayed and difficulty of the conversion you couldn't really go past the 1GGTE. Nark's put out the same rear-wheel figure at the last dyno day as a 1UZFE...thats not too shabby Smile

My definition of bang for buck is input is lower, equal or almost equal to output ......

ie:

effort/money/input = *********
output = *********

as opposed to something that takes alot of effort and money but little output

ie:
effort/money/input = *************
output: ****

agreed ???

Bang for buck should be the dollars paid per kilowatt increase.
Ie, 60kW at the wheels to 120kW at the wheels costing say 4 grand (vauge estimate of similar conversion?).
That's 4000 dollars divided by 60kW improvement, which equals $66 per kW. Wow, doesn't sound cheap when you put it that way. Very Happy
Although a cost effective boost increase would soon even things up. Laughing
