Anyone done any bumper repairs before? Sat, 11 December 2004 04:20 Go to next message
Got a lot of time on my hands atm, so I figured I might as well finally get around to getting my SX bumper fixed up to replace the original one on my car.

What I want to know, is whether anyone's done any sort of repairs to scratches/cracks/gouges in plastic bumpers before, and what the recommended products/methods would be for filling/smoothing these sorts of things out.

Here's a couple of examples of the worst of what I'm talking about:

Should I look at filing it all smooth, and then filling the cracks that are left over, or would I be better off doing the filling first and smoothing second?

Any other advice for how to go about it?

for small cracks/dings/holes you just fill it with bog/niki/body filler and sand it down just like any thing else

as for that big crack you would be better of using fibreglass niki/bog and doing the same in respect to sanding/smoothing

when you done and all good, primer the areas and then rub back and spray

Alot easier to replace, if your doing it your-self, your entering a world of hurt.

I do remember a mate of mine replacing his bumper on his 92 GTi only set him back $400-$450 painted, pretty easy to take of the old and install the new

Cheers

Steve

Yeah, but this IS the replacement bumper Sad The SX style bumper being a slightly different style (and IMO a bit more aggresive) is what I was after to replace my existing one.. I picked this one up ages ago after spending quite some time looking for one with the factory lip spoiler etc..

Anyway, I'm planning on sending it to someone to get painted properly, just want to get it all nice and smooth for them first..
