Ae92 Rolla...GTZ or black-top? Help...

cheers guys ive gotta ae92 rola shes got a 4af in ther at the moment im keen on wippn her out and repalacing her ne hints on gd ole 4agzes? im pretty sure ther all the same engine mounts being ae92 im looking 4 about 200hp so a nice gtz with a bitta boost will do that or a black top 20v ther wat 170hp stock? with a cam and i bit here and there shd b fine. are ae101 and 111 mounts the same as ae92? all hail u guys wif ur ae86s if i could find 1 id buy it straight out ther as rare as hens teeth! dam! ne thing would b great guys  thanks

GZE, 20v's are overrated from factory, or rather that power was derived with no ancillaries...

hey buddy i have the exact same car and am looking at doing the exact same conversion...GZE or 20V, ive heard from many sources that both engines are over-rated off the factory floor but can be tweaked to give a fair bit of performance

what you have heard and how correct it is is dependant on which specific engine they were refering to.
In stock trim, i would rate the 4A-G*** motors in the following order:
1. Aus Bigport 16V 4A-GE (aka bluetop)
2. Jap Bigport 16V 4A-GE
3. Smallport 16V 4A-GE (aka redtop)
5. Silvertop 20V 4A-GE
6. Blacktop 20V 4A-GE
7. Bigport 4A-GZE (aka AFM)
8. Smallport 4A-GZE (aka MAP)
personally if i were to convert a FWD shopping trolley, i would take my time. Either wait for a front cut that is cheap enough (hardly any are these days - so very doubtful)
or
start with a smallport 16V 4A-GE, buy some smallport 4A-GZE pistons from toyota (AUD$400 for the set), an E58 gearbox + drive shafts (2nd hand), an aftermarket ECU and slap on a turbo.

ive thaught about getting a 4age and turbo charginig in but its alota messing around thats y id prefer to go gtz but a 4agte is definatly a option. plus FWD turbos are a prick tryn 2 squeese that turbo in with the radiator alternator A/C statermoter ect all in the way...
hey nolan cool az mate!  what u investigted thaught about?
front cuts r rear as hell over here and gtz's are the same thers bugga all gtz's and get snapped up so fast but PLENTY of 20v 4ages sitting inside ae101's
are all ae engine mounts the same? splines?

hey buddy, not having 2 much luck on the whole upgrade thing..i got a whole lot of people telling me a whole lot of things, sounds pretty much the same with u ay? not many GZE front cuts and 20V are pretty pricey over here... have u made up ur mind what you want to do yet?

4age seems to be the strongest engine but doesnt produce as much power as the others,
i used to have a 100kw engine in my old car (ae82 corolla) and that went pretty well,

yeah ive got the same aye ppl telling me all sorts of things but im slowly figureing things out...slowly lol
yeah im mostly likely thinking 4agze its alota work turboing a N/A but i love the sound of a nice N/A blasting 7000rpms i dunno
