modifying the rim Mon, 13 December 2004 07:31 Go to next message
hey, does anyone know if its legal to do this in australia.

i got 16x8 inch rims. now the problem is i brought them with the car but the front rims and tyres are rubbing. so is there any way to cut the rim and get it welded back so its a 16x7inch rim?

if anyone knows anything about this please help. else im up for new rims Sad all i wanna do is sell my car.

jeez - it might be cheaper to buy new mags than get someone to modify the existing rims.?

there used to be this place in brisbane (wilson's wheel works) that did this kind of thing - but they've shifted from albion and i've never heard of them since.... maybe Syd has more shops that do this?

what you're asking is a substantial job:
remove exising rim edge
remove excess from inner core
re-align rim edge and attach
machine both sides of weld and fill any voids
machine rim edge for trueness in rotation
(and buy new rims if this gets botched big time)

if you're just trying to shift your car, get a cheap rim/rubber package from a tyre dealer - even jac's is now doing the povo bling+rims+rubber thing nowadays.

theres a place in sumner park that does wheel modifications
i think i found them in the yellow pages. they are on jijaws (spelling?) st.

im guessing its easier and cheaper to buy a new set / second
hand set... and also sell the set u have.

ok thanks for the information. the old man isnt to fond of getting that done to the wheels, so i just sell them once i track some new ones. might go 16x7or17x7 front and 17x8or18x8.5 on the back. plus 2 other cars in the house need new tyres might be able to get a deal.
