considering buying a black top long motor, and using the bottom end with my small port head. as far as i know, the 20v doesnt have an external oil return from the head to the block? what would you do with the return? run it straight to the sump?
also, whats the redline on the black top?

Correct. The 20v does not have an oil drain from the head to the block. Oil return direct to sump would be fine provided it was baffled to discourage oil slurping upwards. Otherwise you can drill & tap the block like the 16v & use that original fitting in the block. There is a lug cast on the block for this purpose. I think the factory original cut was about 7.4-7.6. Not exactly sure. I am curious as to why you would want to replace a 20v head with a 16v though.

Why on earth would you want to do a thing like that?

why..? ask ueo.
the long motor i have been offered is less the throttles. i kinda like the 16v better for some reason. i wont have to buy as many lifters/buckets.. whatever you like to call them. easier (neater) to set up for rwd. Dont really want to get into a discussion on the merrits of either.
im also thinking i might run it on the standard management for a time, if i need to. my small port is not an import engine, and has a good few k's on it.
