it has been established that for the time and money required that it wouldnt really be worth it and you would be much better going for a ball bearing turbo such as a VG30 Roller or T28 Roller, or if you are really lucky a GT28 roller off a GTIR pulsar, 200+ rwkw is possible with all three of these turbos

Better make sure that you dont wind up with a ceramic wheel version of the t28 otherwise you wont be making more boost than stock without spitting it into the exhaust

fattony they can run 14psi safely with no dramas, i know of several S15 owners running over 14 psi with no issues either, obviously you wouldnt want to gotoo far tho

Well considering stock gen 3s run 11psi, i do not consider 3psi difference a worth while result. When you could keep the stock turbos and end up being able to run the same boost. Comon lets be honest, why would you waste all that time and money putting a single turbo on a 1g when you cant even reach higer boost levels than whats attainable on the stock twin setup if thats your reasoning for the single turbo setup.
You would have to forgive me just got home from work before and you would usually get stupid unthought answers like that out of me. Now i have had time to rest the above is the meaning of what i wanted to say before

yeah but the simple fact reamins that you cannot make 220rwkw on stock gen 3 turbos, with a T28BB you can
They dont run out of puff on high boost like the CT12's do

Fattony, it's not boost you are after it's flow, so the increase in 3 psi isn't the issue, it's how much flow the T series turbo would make at 14psi.....if it's more than the twin CT12 at their max boost then it's worth the effort.
As for whether a T28 will flow 200rwkw i've yet to see it. Put a T28 BB next to a GT2540 which is it's natural upgrade and you will see a huge size difference. These are both Garrett turbos and Garrett themselves only rate the GT2540 at a max of around 240rwkw (i have one on my 3SGTE and it's about right).
A CT26 will get you close to 200rwkw but it's definitely pushing it. The beauty is they are easy to upgrade with larger comp wheels so if you want to stay with a toyota product then there's nothing wrong with a CT26.
At the end of the day though, if you are going to go to all the trouble of ditch the twin setup you may as well do it properly and at least run a GT25 frame or an IHI RX6...something bigger than the factory offerings. If not you're better off just optimising what you have the best you can.
