Hi,
Thanks 4 that Puzzleman. Try and make some without those gross sultanas and crap that they have.
In regards to a Toymods Easter event, I'm interested. As I mentioned at the meeting I am only interested in entering a Show & Shine with my car (no racing, drifting or dragging in the old girl) and for that reason I am reluctant to travel 4 hours just for a half day event.
I'd certainly be happy and support a "local" event organised by Toymods. So long as we can get together, look at and talk about cool Toyotas, have a bit of a barbie and sink some ale.

Sounds good to me.
Wanted to go to Tamworth but work will not let that happen this year so a cruise somewhere would be good.Although i vote for the Central Coast as its a good middle ground for anyone travelling from this area.
Just and idea.

PLUS its a 4 day + setup to go up and back for me to drive to sydney so i want to make the best of all the days i can have up there!
pesky only having 4 weeks annual leave ! and so many car fun events to cater for

Sorry about the vagueness. However I would much rather be vague until it is all confirmed than disappoint people by making big claims of what is going to happen and then when the time comes not actually have any of those events. We've all seen that kind of thing too many times already.
Believe me we are trying to get a good event happening, and no matter what there will be an event. It just depends on weather we can get everything to fall into place to run what we want to run.

John,
Toymods has run Events at Easter for those not going to the Toyota Nationals on more than one occasion in the past.
2001, The Nats was canned at the last minute, Toymodders wanted an Easter event so we went to Dubbo anyway and had a blast
http://www.toymods.org.au/gallery/displayimage.php ?album=8&pos=16
http://www.toymods.org.au/gallery/displayimage.php ?album=8&pos=17
2002, The Nats was shit Canned at the last minute yet again so Toymods Hooked up with the Woolongong Crowd and had a really great long weekend. Navigation rallies, show n shine and a shitload of good old fashion socialising, eating and drinking.
http://www.toymods.org.au/gallery/displayimage.php ?album=10&pos=46
2003, Toymodders asked for an alternative and we held a treasure hunt style rally and BBQ over the break. It was a good fun day and as with all Toymods events is focused on the Social.
http://forums.toymods.org.au/index.php?t=msg&t h=11616
2004 - All the board went to the Nats and had a blast so there was noone in Sydney lol
2005 - Our members asked us to provide an alternative to what was on offer and we are doing our best to come up with something for them. The Nationals commitee have been planing their event since last Easter, We started this month so don't expect miracles..... but we really are trying. At least we listened !
This has nothing to do with anyone V's anyone. If it was we would have planned something months ago and the Nats wouldn't be advertised on OUR forums. Toymods has always encouraged the wider Toyota Community to stick together which is why other groups like the CCG canbe found at any Toymods organised event, everyone is welcome.
The simple fact is we actually listen to what our members ask for (Its their club) and are working hard to try and fill their requests. We are a social club and for us thats what its all about !
PS, this easters Toymods social will almost deffinatly NOT at Eastern Creek.

What Rod said
I would like to think that we can organise and attend an event which allows our members to come together for an awesome social, and enjoy a little fun in our cars at the same time! Concentrating 100% on the motorsport aspect is what eventually kills an event, as if there is no social aspect, why would anyone go again? That said - people are attracted to an event by what the event entails, thus you do NEED motorsport/shows to draw people into the event and give them something to do and have fun...
When you are considering such a close knit group as the greater toyota community, the social aspect of events is what we all thrive on.... but at the same time we all love some good motorsports!!
In any case, something will happen for easter, so if you are keen to catch up with all the toyota nutters - keep easter long weekend free.

Just to keep everyone in the loop we have been madly trying to secure a location for our Easter get together.
Our first choise is unfortunatly not a viable one and we are chasing up an alternative venue as we speak. Please bare with us, these things are not easy to arrange and we have only had very short notice of the need to arrange something.
Worse case sceranrio will be a social weekend away with a show and shine and a social outline.
We will be getting together and appreciate everyone patience while we try and secure the best weekend possible with such little notice.

There is already a perfectly good weeekend away that fits this description planned for those dates. One which a large number of people enjoyed have enjoyed (including Toymods) over a long history and is conducted with the interests of the enthusiasts in mind.
http://www.toyota-nationals.org.au
The original reason for Toymods organising an alternative event was as a local (sydney metro) alternative for people unable to attend the Nationals.
For Toymods to organise an alternative "weekend away" trip is pure HYPOCRISY.
Would it REALLY HURT to encourage Forum users to attend Australias longest running Toyota event ??
I'd hate to think there was a personal agenda at work here.

Matt,
Toymods is a car club that has members. As the board of Toymods car club it is our responsibility to run the club in a way that benefits our members and fills there requests. We listen to the opinions and suggestions of our members and event attendees. For this reason we are planning on holding an event over the Easter long weekend. This isn't "HYPOCRISY", this is running a club where you are there to serve the members rather than yourself.
The fact is if you run an event that appeals to people they will come. A lot of people are unhappy with the event you plan to run and they plan not to attend. The unhappiness has been building for some time with the amount of people who really did not want to move the event from Dubbo. Followed by the obvious snubbing of one of the organisers who was informed he was not an organiser this year when he asked why he hadn’t been involved in the discussion about moving the event. The final straw for most people has been the fact that the event was moved to Tamworth, as far as we could tell from the explanations, to get more sponsorship and have more events. However this year your event costs more, is further away for most, has less sponsorship and less motorsport events, in fact there are no motorsport events at all.
As to "Would it REALLY HURT to encourage Forum users to attend Australia's longest running Toyota event ??" practically the entire board of Toymods attended the last Toyota Nationals, how many of the nationals guys attended Toyota Fest?
Perhaps instead of using the Toymods forum as an advertising tool you could become more involved in the wider Toymods/Toyota community, and perhaps if you took notice of feedback when you asked for it there would not be this situation. As for a long established history, some would argue what is currently organised has no resemblence to the event after which it is named.

Rod,
PLEASE show me where Toymods Car Club, or any individual forum user has fed back through ANY channel, negative or discouraging advice about the plan to ...
1. relocate the Nats (I believe it was your members suggestion in the first place (remember the wakefeild discussion.)
2. Make Tamworth the new location.
Most that I can find or remember are merely enquiries, or outright support for a move to new venue, and then positive feedback about what could be available in Tamworth.
A requirement of organising an event like this is that your organisers take some part in the organising itself. Otherwise obviously that person is not an organiser. The organiser you mentioned has not contacted the 2005 Organising Committee through any means other than this forum - under a pseudonym - since the last Toyota Nationals. Where, I might add, they made unconsidered promises of new events without engaging any demcratic process with the committee. It is also after this "organisers" interactions with local Dubbo sponsors that they were less than helpfull for the following year. FWIW in recent times they have been ignoring enquires from new Canberra locals as to suggested events for the easter weekend. (Yes even the Toymods one).
To address a few other issues which have been raised...
1. that the nats is not necesarilly a social/fun event hence the need to offer an alternative social event. This year the Nats is PURELY social. Only show and shine is in anyway competitive, all other events are non cometitive outings designed to be fun.
2. That Tamworth is an excessively long drive.
Tamworth is exactly 404 km from castle hill. Dubbo is 393 km from castle hill (source travelmate.com.au). I hope I dont need to expand on that regarding sydney competitors. As for interstate, Queensland traditionally has been the largest interstate supporters of the Nats throughout its history, Whilst it does represent a longer drive for the southerners, they have had it good for quite some time (being even closer than sydney in some cases in the past).
3. That it is an expensive weekend. This year costs are at their lowest in a long time, less than $100 would get you to show your car, friday welcome dinner, sunday presentation dinner + a t shirt. Surely that could not be seen as exessive.
Sponsorship is not the problem, Timing was. Toyota Corporate have changed the support structure for events such as these and as our intending major sponsor, could not give us the support we needed in time to secure the venues and permits required for motorsport. In future years this will not be a problem and we will return to an event which incorporates motorsport.
On the weekend of the Toyota Fest show, Grant, Dave and Myself were away on a daytrip to meet with sponsors and facities in Tamworth AT OUR OWN EXPENSE. It was a long day but very productive, gaining sponsors and the suppoort of TSCC, Tamworth City Council, Tamworth Tourism,Tamworth Toyota and the Tamworth regional Police Area Command. They were all very welcoming and accomodating - the kind of place the event could grow and return more to its competitors.
As the Toyota Nationals is a non - profit organisation, we rely on word of mouth advertising, internet forums, and the goodwill of past attendees to spread accurate information. Constant reminding and pressure from Toymods regarding our "Free Advertising", suggests that it is Toymods who wish to benefit financially from this community event, by charging us money to advertise and adding to our costs, which must be passed to competitors in the end anyway.
We do try to maintain a webpage for the information of competitors, though as we are not lucky enough to have highly skilled web designers on the committee and with mainly armchair critics looking on, we are lucky to have a few volunteers to help us out, a huge commitment from Alchemist has significantly aided us here, thanks very much Nathan ! In that respect we ask that you please consider that to have an amazing web presence would probably result in amazing increases in costs to the competitors, and we understand cost is the number one factor when considering to attend potential events.
You suggest that the current event is unlike the "Toyota Nationals" of old, when in fact the 2005 format is closer to the traditional event than has been held in a couple of years. For most of the 25 + year history of Toyota Nats, the format has been a largely social one, Motorsport is a recent addition. The proposed 2005 format is a return to events from the past which have since been heralded as "the best ever" despite a lack of formalised motorsport events.
Anyhow, the Nats are gathering momentum. Final arrangments in place and I would like to take this opportunity to thank those people who have been supportive. Descisions such as we have had to make are not easy, trust that we the organising committee have only your best interests at heart and are looking forward to another great time this year in Tamworth.
See you there.
