How do you remove it?!?!?
I've unscrewed and removed the cover for it, how do I get the panel out?

what do you want to remove?
you say you have removed the "cover",
do you mean the surround that holds the rear wiper control etc. ?
or the actual clear plastic cover over the speedo etc.?

The panel below the instrument cluster must be removed. Try taking the little rectengular panels in the lower panel off to get at the instrument cluster mounting screws.

After the cover is off, I think there is 2 screws at the top, and 2 at the sides, (from memory), then get your hand up under the dash and pull the speedo cable out.
Then just inch the dash cluster forward and inplug the wires from the rear.
There are 4 or 5 wires there.
Wire number 12 is the 4 pulse per speedo rev signal

I need to remove the digital instrument panel
I've taken off the cover above it and i've just removed the steering column cover. I think the instrument panel is being held by wires at the back.

Yeah, grab some side cutters or wire strippers, and strip some insulation off the wire, without cutting it through, and without removing it from the plug.
Then just wrap the new wire around this bare section, and solder it up, and tape it up.
You can then remove it later and have the car still working as before.

Just coz the cig lighter doesn't work doesnt mean the light around it doesn't.
Does that light up?
Do the Aus delivered Ma61's have a light in the ashtray? or is that just a JDM thing?
Also the light that lights up the heater controls is another good place to get the signal.

I'd say you either have a few blown globes, or a blown fuse.
Test the voltage to the globes with the lights on, that will tell you if the fuse is ok.

Get power for illumination from the dimmer switch, that's what the rest of the dash lights are hooked up to. It's nice and easy to get at as well.
