AE86 cable-hyd clutch conversion Sun, 26 May 2002 23:04 Go to next message
What are the details for converting from cable to hyd. clutch.

I assume most of you guys out there with 4A-GE, 4A-GZE's would have done this.

Cheers

As far as I'm aware all AE86's already have hydraulic clutches..

every one I've seen anyway (including both of mine).

Actually the 3A-CU is a very good engine, and loves to be worked and reved, I still think they are a better engine than the 4AC, anyhow as for the clutch go buy a clutch master and slave from off a AE71 corolla, you will also need a pedal box to suit, Im not sure if the AE71 will fit to the sprinter, but there are plenty of sprinters in wrecking yards, if you have problems locating one give me a yell and ill point you in the right direction. You will also need to get a clutch line made up...theyre about $60

I have an AE86 wreck in my driveway that I could pull all the clutch bits out of if you wanted them.

send me an email, and we'll sort something out.

Hi rwdtrueno hehehe

luckily being in nz, you have access to a wide range of cheap import parts at your local wreckers.
i suggest you wander on down to one of these and pick up either an ae86 or ae85 pedal box and the ae86 or cresta clutch master cylinder, hydraulic line, and slave cylinder.
you will have to make holes in the firewall for the master cylinder and the bolts.
install the pedal box first to make sure the hole is in the correct spot to meet the "plunger" which attaches to the clutch pedal.
then just route the hydraulic line from the master to slave and bolt it all together Smile

AE71 pedal box is completely different to ae86 and will not fit.

all the nz ae85's and 6's run a cable clutch setup. a friend in nz has a gt apex uk import, and it has a cable setup as well - you will need to scam an aussie clutch pedal setup - it will just bolt in (with a load of stuffing around to get to everything)

do you mean the nz new ae86s? because every one i've seen has been hydraulic, apart from the 3a equipped ae85's.
why would toyota put the k-50 behind the 4age? there is no cable clutched t-50.

-all ae85s (ae86 with 3-a engine) had cable clutch k-50
-every ae86 (with 4age) i have seen has hydraulic clutch t-50

apparently there were 4age ae86s with cable clutch too although i have yet to see or believe this Smile

Urmmm refer to my last post, both my AE85's (including the rally car in NZ) ran a 3AC with T50 box and came that way from factory with a hydraulic clutch (the rally car was specifically sourced for me in japan by a member of my family) so there must have been a cross over area at some point where they mixed and matched
