I blew the head gasket last week. Swapped gaskets gave the head a bit of a clean up etc, etc. Fired the motor up but no sound of a running motor i gave it a compression test and low and behold low compression why i dont know, but i believe having bugs in the cylinders wouldn't help much
Cylinder one
Cylinder three
And both the bugs
About the only why i of them getting in was when i had the plugs out
im hoping those pics ae before you gave it a clean!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
as for the bugz HAHAHAHAHAHAHA gotta admit thats pretty funny...
but with the block you did clean that didnt you? otherwise its gonna leak almost definately! get a scrapper and scrap it all and then some 600grit sand paper to smooth it out..
also while your there get a file and clean out some of the corrosion in the water jackets and remove the bottom water hose and flush that out a bit... you might as well since the heads off

The first time (last week that is) that i took the head off i gave it a clean up scraped the head to remove the left over gasket etc, etc but i didn't do the water jackets (thanks for the tip fade-e). The pics are straight after the head was removed and i'll be cleaning the block in the morning or arvo or sunday when i can get the time do it.
About the only thing that i can think of as how they got in there was last week when i put the head back on late at night i left the spark plugs out for a while with a light above the motor. I kept moving the light around when i put the manifolds back on.
As for the motor its a non turbo 4a-f block with a g head. Long story and too many months.
