It takes a certain person to pull off this style - you can't just bust out with an old school Corolla and expect to be accepted. You have to do your homework and create something hard - P.J. has done just that. This car has mad style and tons of flavor - that's why you see it adorning the cover of our magazine.

Don't prejudge this car before you get to know it. I heard about this car from a few people and everyone that would talk about it, wouldn't stop talking. P.J. Bonifacio has been in our scene for a long time. He is a master builder and has built many cars for many people. Some of the top show cars have been painted by his shop. When he brought out this beauty - it was just what we were looking for.

It's our duty to bring you the freshest style in the Sport Compact market and there's no doubt that the Hachi Roku has a huge and strong following right now. With the drift scene coming on super strong - there's no wonder that this true school car is holding it down! It takes a certain person to pull off this style - you can't just bust out with an old school Corolla and expect to be accepted. You have to do your homework and create something hard - P.J. has done just that. This car has mad style and tons of flavor - that's why you see it adorning the cover of our magazine. This cat's for real, check out his story below!

C16 - Who Is P.J. Bonifacio?

P.J. - I'm really just another kid at heart who likes to fix up cars, plays with them and refuses to grow up.

C16 - What do you do for a living?

P.J. - I manage and operate an automotive body repair and paint shop that carries my name.

C16 - What's your style? When it comes to shoes and clothes, what do you like to pimp?

P.J. - My style... hmmm, it's simple. If it looks good...I'll buy it.

C16 - What about Music - what do you like listening to?

P.J. - I love listening to Jazz. I often attend live Jazz concerts all over the Southern California area.

C16 - What about the ladies? Do you have any good pickup lines?

P.J. - That's a secret...if I tell you.... I'll have to kill you.

C16 - Hey settle down! P.J., when did you first begin building cars?

P.J. - When I was 15 years old. I was always around my family's body shop in Manila.

C16 - Yo that's crazy. You obviously have a passion for Toyotas, can you tell us about it? How many Toyotas have you built?

P.J. - Toyotas are very reliable cars even after you modify them. I can say that I have built over 50 different Toyotas to date.

C16 - I have to say that I'm completely blown away right now, 50 cars - your nuts. What was the first vehicle you had built?

P.J. - It was back in the early 80's, a 1971 Toyota Corolla, we restored it and dropped a 2T-G full race motor, which was the hot thing to do back then.

C16 - That's sick. Hey, where are you from with a name like Bonifacio?

P.J. - I was born and raised in Manila, Philippines.

C16 - Right on, what made you build this AE86?

P.J. - One night I was hanging out with my friend Dan Quiambao of Danstoy and we were thinking of ideas on how to fix up this particular AE86. He had the fantasy to drop a 3SGE motor in it and I said, "Go for it!"

P.J. - No, the first AE86 I built was a blue one with TRD N1 flares and a 4AGZ Supercharged engine.

C16 - Yeah everyone over here at C16 remembers that car. What is so different with this car from that one?

P.J. - There is no part of this car that has been untouched. I think we put in more work into this car than any other project we have done before... and were not even done yet.

C16 - Where do you find most of the parts for these cars?

P.J. - All over the place... Japan, Philippines, Australia, hole in the wall places here in the US... and if we can't find it...we'll make it!

C16 - I love that. That's what makes this car so special. How much money would you say you have invested into this car?

P.J. - To tell you the truth... I don't know. When I spend money on this car as long as I like the results, then it's worth it.

C16 - What type of wheels and suspension are on this work of art?

P.J. - The wheels are SSRs, sizes 14 x 10 in the front and 14 x 11 in the back. With TEIN coilovers in front and TRD springs & shocks in the rear. The brakes are by ROTORA and Rally Innovations built the triangulated strut tower bar.

C16 - Tell us a little about the motor in your car and the install.

P.J. - The motor is a 2nd Generation JDM 3SGE engine with a custom valve cover, hi-comp pistons, forged crank, ported & polished head, 272 degree HKS cams & gears, blueprinted and balanced internals. The intake manifold was fabricated to adapt the individual throttle bodies that were taken from the 4AG-20V motor, which by the way was almost the motor for this car. Motor mounts for the 3SGE were fabricated and most of the wiring is tucked away neatly.

C16 - That's crazy. What type of transmission did you use to work with the 3SGE motor?

P.J. - A 6-speed gearbox from a Supra was mated to the 3SGE with the use of a special adapter to mate with the bell housing.

C16 - Look, I'm completely baffeled right now! How much horsepower is in this AE86?

P.J. - I don't really know, since we haven't put it on a dyno yet, but my butt dyno estimates around 240hp.
