Brake Pad Support Plates Sat, 18 December 2004 00:08 Go to next message
Hi Guys,

Gave the gt4 a brake inspection and I noticed that the front left brakes are missing the support plates. As a result, I noticed that there is a bit of movement on the pad (you can literally move it slightly with your fingers, so it's not in a fixed position as the other pads).

Now, how crucial are the support plates? I'm assuming that it's probably not a good idea to have any pad movement.

Thanks.

It won't make any difference to braking performance, it's just annoying having the pads rattling around when the brakes aren't being used.

I might be wrong but are these plates not there to try and stop heat transfare rather then to support the brake pad?

Yep your wrong. They are only there to help stop rattle.

neither of our cars have the anti rattle shims in them.

one through apathy the second casue i purchases other calipers and never recieved any shims.

occasionally they can be a bit squealy esp on just soft braking. other then that ok.
