ma70 diff conversion??? Sat, 18 December 2004 00:48 Go to next message
hi guys, i just got a ma70 supra and am a keen drifter, ive always owned nissans but i went outside the square and got a supra, it has a 5 spd, 1jzgte, gtr cooler, adj cam gears, 13 psi, alimin radiator, strut brace, susp work, the only problem is that the car aint a drifter due to a shitty diff, im wondering how i'd go bout putting an lsd in this and what sort of money am i looking at, will a jza80 diff fit?? i would prefer a direct bolt in, or would it just be easier to pull out the old welder and lock the bastard.
cheers and thanks in advance for any help.
Danny

Chances are it already has a LSD in it, but it's worn out from the last wannabe-drifter who owned it. Check the build plate on the firewall and tell us what the axle code is.

W58 is the transmission code for the 5-speed manual, so something weird is going on if it was originally auto. Confused

Also G258 can't be right for the axle code, the last digit should be 4 (open centre) or 5 (LSD). The middle two digits indicate a 4.556:1 final drive ratio.

If you're at all serious my advice would be to fit an aftermarket LSD, e.g. Kaaz, Cusco etc. Should cost $1500-2000, and sure does make a big difference to the way the car behaves. Personally I think it's streets ahead of a weldy, too! A cheaper option might be a spool though.

oh.. you could always undo the eight or so bolts on the rear plate for the diff and take a look. and change your diff oil while your at it. a diff loves new oil.

or just take the filler nut out and have a look through the hole with a torch and see if you can see worm gears.

I'm pretty sure 9 denotes a torsen. Besides, only JZA70's had a torsen and they didn't come with a W58!
