well my gf's sister has an Auto one and that is not to bad, it goes ok, doesn't have incredible amount of pick up, but they are soooo cheap to run and for the power and actual comfort of the car i think they are worth getting. and being toyota they are quite reliable. I acutally used this one as a rally car once (without them knowing) although they weigh nothing they don't handle to badly either for a FWD. But if u can get a good cheap price diffinately worth getting one!! But i would liek to go for a drive in a GT Starlet!! anyone been in one of them??

just the 1.3l with a rip snorting 55kw, Rick bates was offering mod up packs, with paseo, heads cmas and bigger exhaust etc and got it to produce the power at the engine stock at th wheels, but as with any small engine any performance gains are minimal.

As with any toyota though they are very reliable, also have good economy and are fairly safe. Good run about car

Hey there...
Nice nick too hahaha.. i didn't realise anyone else had the TRD in front of their name... so much for originality on my side
I want something thats cheap to buy for my gf but still slightly exciting to drive....
They seem pretty comfortable when we sat inside one... I wish they had the 5efe motor coz they would be a pretty serious little machine for 850kg...
Anythin that might get a bit more out of em? not big bucks just something to make the engine breathe a bit better. i was just thinkin of gettin her a k&n panel filter.
In a manual they shouldn't be too bad i reckon. One thing i don't like is the lack of Tacho's..
Thanx again to everyone on toymods!

the toyota starlet is a great little run around car, i recommend them as i drive them nearly everyday as i work for toyota in the service department.
try 2 pick one up with power steering though as alot of them came out with non-power steering. i think off memory the one u are after comes with power steering.
in japan they are called toyota glanza - i think the engine is a 4efte/ turbo charged 1.3 litre as in gt starlet as they call them here.
get a half cut off a gt as u cannot buy glanza half cuts or they r just rare- i never seen one for sale.
hope that was any help 2 u

Hey at the moment i'm considering gettin a Paseo instead...
We had a look at one today and yeah my gf fell in love with em... The overal feel of the interior, the fuel economy, sporty 2 door feel...
Whats a pretty reasonable price with one with quite reasonable kms (aroudn the 100k-150k) and is it worth going for the lower kms ones? i know that kms don't count with toyotas, i've got a celica with 286,000kms and shes still going perfectly....
How do they handle?
Worth it for the money?
Anything major to look out for?
Thanx
Adrian

lol i wish i could convince my GF to buy a GTi-R !! ever car i surgest she goes NAAAA. The only car she has pointed out which she likes, which also makes me very sad and worried. Is an XU-1 GT-R Hot Pink Torana getting around. Although its a really nice car in good condition i still get worried. I tried surgesting a AE92, she had an AE82 and she thinks they look gay. so i dunno maybe i can drive her around and she can give me petrol money instead!!!!

The 5EFE only has 100hp @ 5400rpm, the 5EFHE has 110hp @ 6400rpm. The difference is the Cams and ECU.
Some Cynos/Paseo's have the 5EFHE and some 5EFE's (not sure on Aussie Specs).
Handling? Well, my Tercel (same chassis, softer springs, no sway bar) has some major under steer problems at low speeds but for a stock grannie hatch back can do alright at high speeds (handles 80-110k corners with ease)
Anyway, about the Glanza and Starlet. The Glanza is just the new name they gave to the Starlet. So from 95/96 onwards all starlets were changed to Glanza's (Chassis changed from EP82 Starlet to EP92 Glanza. Most come with 4EFE's and only the Glanza V/Starlet GT came with 4EFTE's.

the missus has a ep82 GT, goes alright. i got to drive a few days ago. she's always saying how it's not that fast, so i showed her how to stall it up bro. stalled up on the brake, lights go green, foot off the brake, the little bastard spins the wheels, ahahah
it's a decent drive, the feedback from the wheel is pretty good. but nothing like a sprinter, and the upright position makes my ankle cramp. corners are safe as, sometimes i have to grab for the jebus handles when shes driving. i can only imagine how much better it would do on brand name tyres and some not so tired shocks.
i've also had a drive of my uncles ep91 life, a manual this time. it gave a chirp into 2nd, looked as tough as a 1.3 could when i took the hubcaps off. and it used FA petrol, i put $20 in and i barely moved the needle again. this was when i was still on my p's so i wasn't exactly trying to save fuel, or the world.
i'd give them the thumbs up, reliable as clockwork and cheap as chips to run

Forgot to mention fuel economy.
I get 300-330kms per half a tank on 96. So thats an easy 650kms per tank.
