Anyone else paranoid about leaving car places? Mon, 20 December 2004 22:35 Go to next message
Howdy all, I just want to see if im an over-reacting paranoid.. freak? ...

Since the RA28's respray some years ago now i'm still too nervous to leave it anywhere. I think it's becoming a bit of an obsessive compolsive disorder thing though. Means I cannot enjoy the car as much as I'd like to due to being scared of it getting scratched/dinged etc when I leave it places.

I have no trouble driving it around, as long as its not left in car parks, on the street, etc. If I do leave it somewhere I have to drive around trying to find a park where no one can park beside you. But then the other day did that and someone backs right up in front of me and starts taking surf boards out of the car and i'm just imagining one of them fins getting smacked into the bonnet.

I'm heading up to QLD over the Christmas break but don't know if I can take the Celica as it'll be impossible not to leave it places. Thinking maybe I should be taking the AE86 up there instead, even though the 28 is so much nicer to drive.

Probably over reacting.. But i've been sitting in car parks waiting for someone and its pretty common to see people smacking trolleys/doors/etc into cars. There is no respect! The AE86 that I leave at the train station often has had beer bottles smashed over the roof and that made a big mess of the paint.

But yeah, whats everyone else like? Should I just get over it?

Cheers
Joel

your not over reacting? your being smart.
the place my car was stolen was across parrammata rd at burwood, houses on each side and no witnesses. if i knew this was gonna happen i would of invested in a tracker, 10gran down the drain.
prevention is better than the cure

I am pretty much the same, the one time I did drive it to work I parked so that no one could park beside me (single car park, coppers logs each side). Imagine my anger when I came out after work and some moron had squeezed in (2 wheels hard against the logs Mad ) and not even enough room between their drivers door and my car for any human larger than a toothpick to have gotten out of the car! Yes they did put a ding in my door and yes I was angry, especially considering this particular car park is never full, so they were not forced to park beside me they chose to Mad

I didn't take my car again after that. I would love to be able to drive my car everywhere (and park it), but I know if I do it will be broken into and dinged up pretty damn quick.

People lack respect for other peoples property and a lot of people are just plain uncoordinated too Rolling Eyes

My girlfriend hates my paranoia, but I just tell her to look at all the dents in her car (none of which we have caused) and then she understands why sometimes we have to park a little further away Very Happy

Ahh glad to hear it isn't just me!

I remember once at a car park when I was in my mates car some quite large lady was trying to get some stuff into her car and kept knocking her door against my mates car, he started honking and yelling to be more careful and she gives us a real dirty look like we are in the wrong.

Most times though it happens when you are not around and come back to find the damage.

Hi,

Yeah, I'm fairly paranoid too. My biggest worry is to find someone's ripped off the GT badges, 'cos that'd piss me off no end.

Since my respray a few months ago, im too scared to leave my car anywhere other than my garage..
even at my gf's place where its totally safe, im worried some fuckhead might come up to like.. steal stuff or something and scratch it.
I hate leaving it at car parks.. if i have to, i park it on the side that has a conrete part on one side so only 1 car can park next to me, and i park with my tyre touching the concrete so that they would have like over a meter of room and have to go out of their way to hit my car.
I never will leave it on side of road unless im going into a shop for 2 seconds

yeah i hate it when people do that, I was so proud of my GF one day, she was driving her mums new commodore down to marion for us to go shopping and she pulls into the park and this kid in the back seat of his mums cooner spec XF Falcon opens the door so damn hard and slams it into the drivers side door of my GF's car, i get out of the car and tell the driver what the kid had done, which he clearly had done, and she begins to tell me that the dent was already there and he didnt hit the door Mad

My GF calms me down and lets the old lady walk inside with her brat kid in tow, then with a devious look on her face keys the entire car.

Im not with that chick anymore but I will still stand by her decision to fuck that car up as some people never learn Very Happy

I would be concerned about that too (given it would be next to impossible to get another set) , my parents car and sisters car had all their badges stolen form out the front of the house one night and they were just crappy camry and corolla ones Rolling Eyes It's annoying though because the little tosswads used a screwdriver (so scratched paint) and on the camry it means without the badge it leaves a few holes in the boot where its tabs fitted in. well i have good reason to be shit scared about my MA61. When i owned my RA60 i had a set of simmons mags that were worth over $1500. Well my car got knocked off and they nicked the mags, only for me to find it out in the middle of a paddock chocked up on logs of wood (mind u i got some free fire wood!!) then after that it was broken into 6 times, I had hte locks jimmyed (broken!) cd head unit stolen, Speakers, 2 way radio, Skool books, skool bag. i was very fucking pissed off and upset. now ever time i leave my MA61 out the front i shit myself

I'm petrified about leaving it parked on the street outside of my house! I just _know_ that someone is going to nick it or failing that, the wheels.

thats why im not bothering with respraying my car cause it will either gets scratched, dented or stolen. noone looks twice at the sprinter when its three colours. cambo cammo! i park it everywhere, im not worried about damage only it getting stolen. i figure i'd rather have a car i can take places rather than one i cant enjoy, i dont look at it when im driving. until i can afford a daily driver the sprinter will continue to look shit.

I'm never worried - have a cheapo sound system, stock speakers (all that is about to change tho), and from the outside with stock everything and a black front mount, noone would notice it's anyhting special. of course, when the new jza61 gets on the road with shiny front mount, 3-piece mags and good sound system... yes, I'm gonna be paranoid.

I'm sure I'll be ultra paranoid when my car is finally finshed. Not only will it have a shiny new paint job, then entire restoration process was done by me and my dad. The time we have spent on this car is enourmous and I hope it doesn't go to waste with some dickheads scratching, dinting, stealing my celica.

Re: Anyone else paranoid about leaving car places? Tue, 21 December 2004 23:50 Go to previous messageGo to next message
Parking your car to minimise the possibility of dings and scratches is an artform. I always try to find a park that has only one car park next to it and I'll give them as much room as possible. My favourite shopping centre has this undercover (essential) carpark spot with big poles either side of it. No one can park next to me. I love it. And there is no pedestrian traffic, which is always something to consider. Those spots next to the shopping centre entrance might be good for security but you increase your chance of people walking past - with kids.... An over sensitive microwave sensor is also a handy thing to have. People tend to not walk so close when a car is beeping at them.

When I first got my Grp A i didn't want to park in shopping centres(or even add any K's to the clock), luckily I still had my old car but when that was gone I had no choice. Now I agree with EVOSTi - a car is to be enjoyed. If it gets dinged I'll get it fixed. If someone does it in front of me I'll educate them, and if its a brat - set the alarm off, they tend to have sensitive ears Very Happy

I'm a delivery driver and are forced to park my car in a really really shitty car park that I swear brings out the absolute worst in people's driving.

My car is always parked directly in front of the store and twice while serving customers now I've ran out of the store to give a mouthful to someone who's opened their door into mine, or just come so dman close to it while parking that it made my skin crawl.

Me and the other drivers are starting to get payback tho, using a label printer to make little signs saying "YOU CAN"T PARK FOR S**T" and sticking them to the door handles of particularly crappy dirvers' cars.

Exact reason why I drive a shitty wagon around and keep the good one in the garage for crusin. I don't care what happens to the wagon - shopping cart dings, kids opening doors...they can go for their life, so long as I can still drive it to put the surfboard in Very Happy
