Did anyone catch that segment on that fuel saver device?
Tested by ford and apparently it does cut down on fuel without loosing performance.

what is it and how does it work?

an engine is designed to use a certain amout of air and petrol per stroke in the 4 stroke cycle i can't see how u can lower the amount of fuel and get an INCREASE in performance thats just crazy.

It's an "all in the head" thing. Just like a cat-back really improves peformance. Rolling Eyes

You have either two things:

More fuel to burn. Larger injectors, larger cubits.

Or

Fuel is more efficently burnt with more oxygen. Turbo, supercharger, NOS, larger throttle bodies.

Yep, as Rob said, fuel saving is in proportion to the leverage of your right foot. That and having a well-tuned car which we all do here anyway.

Interesting to note:
If saving fuel (without losing performance) is so high on the aussie agenda, why arn't we all demanding the import of Direct Injection engines?

Toyota's got their 2.0l D4 in 3/4 of the current car line in Japan. Audi is introducing their FSI range in A2, A3's in the UK. Volvo has been selling Mitsubishi's Direct Petrol Inject for some 6 months or more now, in all countries where petrol is considerably more expensive than AU.

Furthermore: Why do aussies then keep buying big inefficeint Holden/Ford 6's and 8's when a Turboed 4, 5 or smaller 6 can produce superior performance and petrol consumption?

Maybe we're just all stupid?

LiFe.

Cause the general population doesnt know the difference between car A and car B. If someone educated them in the issue im sure they would realise but without anyone telling them how the F**K are they supposed to know ???

Ever try to insure a turbo?

Plus you'll probably find that a constant boosting turbo sucks up more juice than the modern V8 does. It has to get power from someplace. I wouldn't exactly call the holden/ford v6/v8 inefficeint these days either.

Plus some people just like the instant/low down torque that a V8 gives.

At least ford are in the good current direction here with their turbo DOHC V6's. I'm sure that is what is needed to have turbo's more "accepted" in this country. Hopefully insurance companies will also change their tunes in the future.
