MR2 HEAD LITES, GLOBE DRAMAS!!!

Has anyone had any experience with sum crazy globes??
I have spent over $250 on globes this year and iam getting beyond annoyed!
Ok............!
I started with a set of the philips Blue Vision, then one blew, so i replaced it with a single, then the other one blew so i decieded to get another single..............?? It blew again so i decieded a new set was in order.
I figured that these werent the best globes, so i go to the next level up, the Crystal Vision.
these look off the hook!
and definitely improved my vision, but lasted less than 3 months??
so now iam back to one stocky and a single blue vision. Then 2nite i bought a set of the Mtec Japo racer ones........ put them in, turned them on and they were getting fuckin hot. so before destroying my headlites i figured i would find another alternative...........???
Has anyone tried any other aftermarket globes to with any sucess???
Also......... Iam pretty sure it is the ride of the car, not the wiring....

I'm also curious as to replacement globes for the MR2, havn't seen many around that I'm keen to try yet though, I'm just going with stockies at the moment, and if it's really dark bring on the fog lights.
levos1 I think I see your car around a fair bit, between the city & Hornsby, it's a very tidy SW20, I'll get mine re-sprayed one of these days so it looks just as good. Saw you in Hornsby tonight, verrry nice.

are the globes getting excessively hot? are you driving over rough roads?
two things that kill globes quickly is overheating (and vapourising the filament, and vibration of a filament when hot causing it to break..
i'm using philips Plus 50, and also Hella Plus 50 (which were at auto one for $20 a pair )
both are very nice with my Hella lenses..

Hahaha!
thanks man!
Yeah that was me! You got me!
I was duped into buyin these fuckin globes up there!
Where were you! i didnt see any mister two's around!
We should meet up for a chat sum time!
oldcorollas - The only time i noticed excessive heat was when i put these mtec ones in!!
fuckin stoopid!! iam thinkin about buying the Phillips Diamond vision! or get them to replace them for all the ones i have bought!!
or else i bad mouth them to everbody i know! hehe!
The only thing is the car is pretty low and has low profile tyres on it??? so iam thinking that that could play a major part in it!
And the roads around here are fucked aswell!!
but i dont think they could be getting any hotter than any other cars globes????

stupid question (but someone has to ask it)
have you been touching the glass of the globe as you have been putting them in?

so have you had issues with 'stock' replacement blubs? or just the higher intensity ones?
what wattage are you running?
maybe the pop-up headlight thingies don't provide adequate bulb cooling for beefier bulbs?

Umm i dunno eh, but they shouldnt be much different to any other globe u would have thought??? cooling wise.........??
Tried the high wattage ones, they nearly melted my fuckin lites!
soo swapped em for a lower voltage set, and the light is pretty dismall!!
iam thinking i might go for the Phillips Diamond Vision!!????!!
fuckin soo much money!
but i just wanna be satisfied!!

meh, go a set of Hella Plus 50's, or Philips Plus 50's
only about $20-30 a pair, so cheap enough to break...
they seem bright enough with good lenses..

Have a look on ebay from time to time there are Diamond Cut globes & lenses for the SW20, I've not been game enough to buy them yet.
I have seen a SW20 around North Syd that has a blue set of lights, really bright and worked well, I always meant to ask him what they were but I havn't seen him in a while.
We should catch up sometime, wouldn't mind having a closer look at your beast. PM me sometime

ive got the hella 55w bulbs iirc in the 2 also were in the celica both have the exact same lens setup in the pop up housing. ive never had any blow so id think either wiring problem or installation problem
just a tip once you take them from the pack wipe the glass of the bulb with a cloth with some metho on it. then install it making sure you dont touch the glass.

Alchemist......... we should definitely hook up and go for a mad cruise or summin!
toof- i am pretty sure that it is the fact that the car is lowered, it is a pretty rough ride, so i think that the thin filament wire just cant handle it???

Maybe try a complete xenon setup this might help because they are egnited by a module that keeps voltage constant unlike halogen lights as you probably alreafdy know ( sorry bout names, im never good with names ), they usually last a long time and also are alot safer probs the 8000k globes would be nice
Also with xenon the fact that they are an arcing globe no a filament wire globe might solve yuor rough ride problem. By interest how far did u lowr it 30mm, 50mm ?
I know people with some. In google search XenonOz
you may find summit of use there
I love lighting

Yeah man.....
i have lowered it 2" at the front and 1.5" at the rear!
and it is rolling on 18's with 30 and 35 profile tyres, i have thought about the Xenon Kits,
but then u run into Law enforvement dramas again, with self leveling etc.............????
Fucked up!

umm, xenons run at a higher voltage with less current than standard globes.
if your current voltage is not constant, then you have a fucked alternator.
Xenon's are a little.. dicey.. in terms of replacing stock globes... they are brighter and may not be legal...
they are da fooly sikest tho
seriously tho, on city streets, they are not needed, and if you need better lighting for highway driving, then get a set of PROPER driving lights
(oh yeah, and check your wiring, or even better, replace with new better wiring and earth direct to battery.. does make a difference)

With the headlights on hi-beam & foglights on the SW20 I've not had any lighting issues, but this is only on empty freeways at night etc...
If I could leave the fog lights on in the city too I'd be fine, but there are fines for that, and in my aus spec SW20 the hi-beams are tied to the foglights, I've seen the wiring around to fix this, but I'm not too keen on the fine for dirivng around with fog lights either.
A brighter globe for normal driving is what we are looking for
