This car is a very nice handling package, and very well behaved when pushed to drift. The set up I run lends itself more toward cornering than drifting, but with a few minor changes this can be dramatically changed. With around 220hp at the wheels running 14psi boost on the dyno, it is a respectable streetcar, and with an engine strong enough to run up to 25psi reliably, it still has a lot of potential. It comfortably handles 18-20 with standard injectors, though traction is regularly a problem, as you would expect.
The engine is incredibly responsive, even when off boost, thanks to some great port and valve work, thanks Adrian, and the torque curve is very fat and flat due to the induction and exhaust tract designs. Plumb back blow off valve and boxed panel filter are both legal and functional.
The highway economy is as good as 7l/100km, the power is very smooth and the exhaust note crisp and clean, Mathew Spry @ Performance Injection Tuning Services has done a superb job of tuning this package.
All the fabrication and turbo conversion was done at Trickyweld on the Gold Coast, where many excellent conversions and Sprinter projects occur, where I worked until recently. Many thanks to Richard for his support and help with this project.
The next step for this car, were I to keep it would be a brake upgrade, and I would fabricate a half roll cage. The discbrake rear end I have already, but are not assembled. I also have a good friend, Aaron Bremner (aza510), who supplies gearbox conversion plates for W series boxes, which would be a sensible precaution, although I haven't had any dramas so far, and this car has been turbo for over a year now. If I were going to drag I wouldn't hesitate to put in a W box.
It is a very regrettable sale, this is my favourite car, I have had 5 or so of them at various stages and I think they look and handle sweet. I am getting married very soon and then travelling around the world for a year or so and It can't be done without my girl and I selling both of our vehicles. (She has a 99 323 Astina, in case you were wondering). I hope that when we get back I can acquire another ae86. I genuinely will regret this sale, but someone will get a car with an enormous amount of work done to it at a fraction of what it cost to actually do.
Other parts that I'll throw in:
1l Surge tank and lift pump
super heavy short rear springs (sets up nicely to drift)
Sparco racing pedals
High stop light (legal requirement in some states)
Items I'll keep, negotiable:
Tighe Billet Cams, 284deg @ 10thou, with Brooke Engineering Adjustable Cam Gears.
S3 TRX Bluebird Disc Brake Rear End, modified to bolt under a sprinter, with brand new DBA rotors and rebuilt calipers. The rear end is a lot stronger than the Sprinter one with larger axles, bigger diff but still runs 3.9:1 ratio. Nissan makes an Lsd that bolts in.
How much do I want for it? $13,000
I am negotiable and there are parts on the car which I would happily keep to lower the price. I am in Tasmania at the moment, the car is registered in Qld but it is only a short boat ride away from Melbourne or Sydney, so if you are serious I'm sure the location will not be an issue. I am serious about selling this car, so please, genuine enquires only, thankyou. My email address is reflekta4jc@yahoo.com.au if you are interested and have some cash, drop me a line and I will be in touch.

the dash may be a bit much for some of you kids watching at home, thats right, pornstar crushed velvet covered dash, speaker pods and you guessed it... hood lining. Not to everyones styling preference I know, but hey I like it. It can be remedied no doubt, if you buy it and you don't like it.
As for battery in the boot, monkey majik, you may have to correct me but a mod plate is not required for that in QLD? if so it is no drama to arrange one.

hey everybody, just to update the thread...
-the engine has now done over 3000km since being run in on the dyno. I'm giving it an oil change today, the second it's had since then.
-I put 6 months rego on it last night so it is reg until 22 july.
-Unless it sells in the next week, I am racing at baskeville raceway at a private practise day on the 22nd put together by hobart-toyota group. That means I have stripped out the rear seats and plastics, reinstalled the surge tank, and the car will have new tyres the week after it comes back.
I'm also thinking about going down to launceston for some car show on sunday, for any of you tas guys who are in the area and want to check it out.
Cheers, Azza

This car is definately still for sale. It now has fresh oil, the surge tank back in, a new pair of bridgestone G3's and 40l of high octane fuel, until saturday at least. it's also lost the back half of the interior in the interest of weight loss, looking very ready for a half cage or some sub boxes, whatever moves you. there has been alot of interest in this car but still no one has made a serious offer. I am going overseas in 4 weeks and it would be really good if I can sell it before I go. e-mail me reflekta4jc@yahoo.com.au

Baskerville was awesome, my car was quite comfortably mixing it with sr20det celicas, fj20det dattos and even kept up with an sti impreza targa tas car on the straight bits, I was very surprised myself! I found a few things that need some sorting for track work but this is one tough streer car!
I leave to travel for a couple of months on thursday and as no one has made me a serious offer, it looks like i need to get a cover and park it. Its still for sale but i'm not too sad that it's still mine. at least i get to drive it again when i get back! but there is still time...

I just worked this out last night and honestly surprised myself, check it out:
Small port 4agze long motor $1000
cost of head work $1000
second hand KKK turbo $500
turbo manifold $500
HPC coating on manifold, exhaust housing, dump pipe and pistons $500
inlet manifold $500
Intercooler and plumbing $1000
oil cooler, remote filter mount, oil lines (incl turbo feed) $400
Fuel system (2 pumps, surge tank, malpassi, lines) $650
Microtech LTX8 installed and tuned $1500
Engine prep and rebuild $1000
3inch Mandrel bent exhaust, turbo back $1000
I have been in the business of doing these mods to cars everyday for the last couple of years, so I know that these figures are fair, if not a little conservative. there are places out there that are charging a hell of a lot more than what i've allowed for.
Total: $9550 and thats just what makes it go! thats no car even, nor paint, seats, wheels... and on the list goes.
So as you can see, this is a lot of car for the money. I wish I had looked around at what people had already started before launching into my own project... something to think about anyway.
Cheers, Aaron

I'm outta here in a day and a half, looks like i'll be parking my ride for a couple of months. I'll be back in April for a couple of weeks if anyone who doesn't have the cash now finds it in the meantime. I geuss this thread will dissappear into cyber space soon, but i'll put another one back up if I reckon it's worth it and I am still keen to sell.

hey dudes, I'm back in oz, man i missed driving my car. I'm hanging out down in hobart for a few months now, still selling the car if anyone is keen but i'm not too desperate. looking around at what people are paying for sprinters, even natural ones, in the rest of the country, I don't think what i'm asking is too much.
It's so cold down here, my turbo is going to love having a proper winter, something it has not experienced living in queensland.
Well i'm off to take down some V8's...

hey, i've got a twin core AE70 radiator with 2 x 10inch thermos on it for cooling. I also have a small oil cooler in front. I have had no overheating problems and the car has spent most of it's life in Queensland. I have worked on Turbo AE86's with standard radiators and no oil coolers in Queensland without any overheating problems, so maybe you should get your radiator core checked out, in fact I would make that a priority.
As for my car being Yellow... I had not seen any yellow AE86's at the time I painted mine. not that it is hard to change the colour, in like a weekend!
