Intercooler End Tanks Thu, 23 December 2004 01:31 Go to next message
Hey guys, are you able to change end takes on a cooler? Would it be feasible as far as price wise goes? Or Just buy a new cooler? Reason why I ask, I have a Hybrid, and the pipes for the end take ar right on the bottom, limiting how high it can go, due to the piping being under the chasis. I want them in the centre, so I can lift the cooler higher, as its too low, and have troubles getting in an out of drivers, plus I hate the look, like those Bodgy VL's, haniging 2" from the bar.

Yes.

Get a couple of quotes from radiator or aluminium fab shops on what you want to do. Then you can decide whether it is fesible or not. Id say definitely over buying a new cooler.

I had a friend who had their alloy tanks cut off the intercooler and new ones made up. So should definately be possible, but suppose does depend on the design etc.

Yeah is possible.
The only problem that they may have is when it comes time to welding the end tanks back on. The alloy becomes brittle after heat treatment, and as I was informed its not something you want to do to often.
I think what was done to mine was that the first weld was left and about 10mm from that it was cut and thats where it was re welded after the work was done on it.

The big thing seems to be that there are people that can do this, can people that say they can do this. I could suggest people, but you'd probably be best off finding someone a bit closer to home!

Cool, thanks guys, I guess a call to Mood Motorsport or Micks Metal Craft can help, but then, i hope re plumbing the pipes is not a big job!
