as you can see, the LHS wheel fills out he guard but the RHS doesnt go as far. it is due to the custom axle (i believe) being shorter on one side than the other. would a simple wheel spacer remedy this situation or can something else be done?

here is the diff/rear axle in question:

this thing is causing me grief. i dont know if it is very tight LSD or if it is locked but it squeals and grinds like a mother****er around corners. although that is another story...

adjustable panhard rod is your friend.

edit: is that an alfa diff? A locked or tight diff will shudder while cornering and the tyres will chirp depending on the surface and rubber. another noises may m ean its fucked.

adjustable panhard rod, thanks, will do.
as for the diff, yes it is an alfa diff! i think 105/GTV??? no idea, i went onto the alfa forums (www.aus-cartalk.com) and they only helped so much Sad
the diff mainly makes noise (yes it does shudder and squeal) around corners but SOMETIMES makes noise along straight roads.
i'l have to get the noise on video while sitting inside the car....
under full lock and standing outside the car, i can see that the tyres are really trying to grip down on the road surface and break traction.... im still undecided whether it is a locked diff or LSD as my mechanic drained the oil from it and found small bits of metal Confused

Are my eyes playing games, or has some clown attempted to shove a whole Alfa transaxle in there? Therefore:
1. Whole transaxle is moving with suspension
2. Unsprung weight...
and a few other issues Very Happy

Mr shin , the 105 didn't use the transaxle they used a live axle which was very carefully located {the 116 gtv series used the transaxle} . The torque rod originally is located in at the top center of the diff so the sxles are not loaded with torque , and so to mimise the twisting force on the axle tube . Tube bending and breakage was common for those cars if raced hard , the centers are very strong as well as the axles are about f series size .

That panhard is on a crazy angle , possible due the spring perches not being at the correct height for the standard ae86's short springs . Can those be altered ? dropped ? because that looks way higher than standard . If the springs being used are standard height . And if you lower it i would be worried about there being no suspension travel at all .

its still riding on stock springs, the suspension hasnt been changed yet (im a busy person) but i think changing it wont help with the noise coming from the diff. its so loud that i'm sometimes afraid of driving it in fear that will will go pop very soon. even my old man doesnt want to drive it.
i've barely racked up 1200kms on the car since the rebuild last month.

edit:

here is a side shot (best i could find) of the car with stock suspension and diff fitted.
