AE86 + DBA (brakes) Sun, 26 December 2004 04:03 Go to next message
I searched their site to get some DBA Slotted Discs for the front of the Sprinter (Aus Model) and no luck

Any Ideas if i could use any others from the toyota range and keep the standard calipers

I have RX7 (S 4/5) discs and calipers at home but have been told its going to cost an arm and a leg to fit Sad

Thanks in advance for any help Smile

I think you can do a strut changover, i have heard something about an ra40 or ra60 strut??? Embarassed, dont quote me, but ya get bigger brakes like that.

Wanna sell the rx7 calipers to me? Smile

dont change to a celica, or really any other strut is my advice. the brakes are a definate up grade yes, but the suspenion goemtry suffers very badly. read - i have experianced this first hand, as has simonae86.

it is possible to source jdm rotors, and then all you need is a suitable caliper.

I recall the ae71 corolla panel van has the same disks as the aus sprinter so I guess these would be quite readily avaliable

Ive tried before, many phonecalls and emails and i got nowhere, theres no off the shelve upgrade for the ausspec ae86, you can however ask DBA to put the slots/drilled at an extra $$$, but thats about it, apart from the $1200 kits from Techno Tuning, which is manly Wilwood anyway and i think these cant be engineered, unless the rules changed.

And as mentioned before, jdm ventilated disk/capilers are about the easiest approach. Thats about as far as i got.

Cheers

So 'upgrading' to a celica's suspension/brakes basically downgrades the ae86 handling/geometry overall?

Thanks,

Why cant Wilwood be engineered? They are calipers just like any other, and are commonly seen on modified cars. Infact three of the modified cars ive seen recently have wilwood calipers. All engineered.

Something about the Wilwoods not having dust seals which are an ADR requirement in Australia.

Oh, and why cant you find DBA700? These are the DBA replacements for the AE86, and are available in slotted.
