E.O.I. Celica Group A ST185 * Damaged * Sun, 26 December 2004 16:50 Go to next message
i bought this car as a project to rebuild from hobart, and i have been stuffed around by the pannel beater, and i really need a car to get to uni and back and i was hoping this will be finished. But since the pannel beater has not touched it...and is not planning on fixing it before then, i have to sell her....It starts and drives perfect, all it needs is pannel work and paint and shes on the road. The car has done 130,000KM.

Currently i have fixed all the suspension, replaced all the parts which were damaged, repaired the front bumper. The rear interior has been stripped.

So far it has costed me $11,500. And i would like to get that back if possible....but im open to offers. I will only sell if i get a decent offer.., so please PM if interested.

here it is:

Poor car!
Have you had any panel beaters inspect it?
Is there any damage to the frame which can not be repaired?
Have you had any quotes on repairs?

i know, i really want to fix it but i need a car asap.

i got quoted $1400 to repair it. It needs a rear quater pannel which costs $700 brand new from toyota. The chasis is straight, the pannel beater inspected it and said the rear has moved to the left a little, nothing major, but can be straightend out with a auto robot easy.

From the pictures it looks like you would need to replace:
-Both rear quarters.
-Passenger side spoiler pod thingy.
-Drivers side tail-light.
-Drivers side front guard.
-Drivers side front corner indicator.
-Power antenna.

All the panels will need realigning and most of them would need a respray... might as well respray the whole car since so many panels are damaged.

Also it looks like the poor things had the rear half resprayed at least once before (no Group A stickers on the rear quarters).

If a panelbeater quoted $1400 to fix it up I would get him to repair the car and sell the whole thing repaired for around 13-14k!
Buy yourself a $300 POS to get you to and from uni until the group A is repaired!

mate iv been the smash repair industry for 15 years,i dont know where you got your prices from but you way off.
iv just got off the phone to a parts supply place that supplys to my shop.each quarter for a group A is $1450.00 and thats my trade price.
a gaurd is $320.
iv done a quick quote on this car without seeing it in person and came to around $4500.thats with all new part from toyota.
yes we use second hand parts but that still come to around $2300

if a panel beater has quoted you $1400 to fix it get him to put it in writting and drop it off tonight.
im not stiring shit i just hate when people say things when they not to sure what there talking about.
and yes i am interested in the car but would only pay $5000 for it.even then i wouldnt make money reselling it as group As go as low as $10000-11000 in QLD

scotty

Toobs the car needs both rear quarters, but if there a skilled pannel beater they can save the passenger side one also. The spoiler pod is there, i just took it all apart at the moment. nothing wrong with power antenna either. The parts needed are the quater pannels, the rear light, the front guard, front parklight, and the little carbon fibre strip that goes between the bonnet and bumper.

Re the cost of the parts, you can buy a 2nd hand widebody front guard for $175 from all jap, they have a few of them. And the rear quater is $700, 3week wait from japan. im not sure where you got your prices from dude?..and where did you get a group A VIN number to get a price quote also?....And i bought this car not to make money of it scotty, its a dream car and i wanted to strip it down and do all the work, but ive run into some problems, but if i get a finish date from the pannel beater im keeping it. My bro rebuilds a few cars so hes got a fair idea. Thanks for the idea of buying a beater dude, i think i will go with that option.

Yeah seriously just buy a shitbox and drive it around until you can get the group a fixed properly.

Also I would be a bit sus on this panel beater who quoted 1400... make sure he plans on properly panel beating the car as for this price I think you'll find they will just roughly beat the panels back into shape and use a shitload of hi-fill to make the car look undamaged.

Personally I would buy a widebody rear cut because you'll probably find the rear cut will be as cheap as the two quarters.
If you want I'll go you halves in a rear cut if one is available in Australia as I want to get all the boot trim and wouldn't mind a spare fuel pump, diff and all the other back half spares that most people don't have.
