Came across this the other day, on a Falcon. Noticed a little coolant at the exhaust flange after a "head service". Yeah probably only residual from the head change, we thought. Start it up get it warm and it will burn off! Well not exactly, shut it down and within 10 minutes the coolant was again visible. Pull the the plugs, and sitting on top of one of the pistons were a few drops of coolant WTF. Took the vehicle back to the head service shop, and said fix it guys. Their inspection of the head first time round failed to show up the crack around No 2 exhaust valve.

If it is only a small amount of water, which dissapears when engine is warm dont worry about it.

For every litre of fuel you burn, you release a litre of water into the exhaust system. This is why mufflers rust out! However getting the system up to temp and maintaining the temp for a while will normally dry out the exhaust. Till next time you start, when the cycle starts again.

If you still have water at the exhaust tip after a decent period of running, then you will have to look at possible head gasket leaks.

regards Chuck.
