Need help with wheels... (ST162)

I have noticed recently that my ST162's wheels hit the gaurds...
So I decided to pull them off and have a look at the measurements..
The offset is right (+38)
They are 7" wide... not sure of original width...
they are 16" tall... (shouldn't make a difference)
I was pretty sure that if the offset is standard the wheels would sit the same in terms of clearance of gaurds...
What on earth is going on???
BTW, im looking at spending money on suspension upgrades and dont want it to be ruined by the wheels hitting the gaurds...

even though the offset is pretty much the same, you now have a 7 inch wide rim which is 1 inch wider than standard, and the height is also 2 inches higher than standard as well. the front is your main problem, if you have soggy suspension the tyres will hit the plastic inside your wheel arch even with stock wheels and tyres. the rear had a bigger allowance so theoretically it shouldnt rub unless your suspension is totally rooted. try to stiffen your suspension so that its doesnt bounce too much, and try not to go extra low when u upgrade your suspension.

Check the condition of your bump stops too, they're prone to falling out when deteriorated on these cars. I spose hitting the stops is better than gouging your tyres. I also bent the inside edge of the panel on my front guards upward so the sharp edge is away from the tyre which helped a little.

i have a similar problem
i have 17" wheels and when i bought it of karl it would only scrap when i did a hard right turn.
but since i had the 2 front tyres replaced and they scrap all the time now, even tho they were the same size tyres.
ive rolled my guards which helped quite a bit, but it still scrubs quite alot

The offset is *NOT* correct if you have fitted wider than standard wheels to your car. Keeping the factory 38mm is a guarantee that your tyres will foul the guards / suspension.
The rule of thumb is as you increase rim width you must reduce the offset in order to locate the tyre in the same general location, to keep it well away from the guards and suspension.

what size tyres did u buy? cause I was gonna to change them to 205/40/17 to stop the rubbing. from memory they were 215/45/17.
the slightly smaller width and hieght would have solved the problem.

Yeah... that makes complete sense...
I wouldnt mind betting the front suspension has had its turn... i think i'll go for some more performance orientated suspension...
