the problem you face is that to import a car that has been written off overseas into aus it needs to be chopped in two such that it can never be road registered. since said vehicle would be chopped in two it cant be driven onto any of the common car carriers.
it will need to be shipped in a container and unless you have enough to fill said container it gets prety pricey.
you would be best to speak to any of the numerous jap export places (in japan) as they will often bundle up all their customers orders enough to fill a container and ship it that way. would be a heap more economically viable that way.,
you may be better off to buy a wreck locally ?

the thing still drives and there it hasn't been in an accident... its just rusted so tahts why its considered a wreck... why would it need to be cut in half?

just in case people would register it again...
But in anycase you want a rolling car right?
so it's an uncomplied vehicle.
Put it this way, if you were to score yourself a free car in japan, it'd cost you round about 5k here doing it through prestigemotorsport, j-spec, etc etc.
If you are thinking of doing ae86s these are pretty expensive, and I've already enquired. A busted up hunk of shit is still about 8kish. From here you could choose to wreck and strip it. or get it complied.

it will come down to if it has a slavage title on it. if the car has been written off. ie it is currently at a wrecker or insurance company auction etc then it will need to be chopped. even if its only got a minor ding.
but if its in someones backyard and it is simply uneconomical to fix or they havent been arsed doing it and it is still registered as a roadworth vehicle then you could import away and simply never register it. but it would seem somewhat of a waste unless you got something particulary cheap. roll-on roll-off shipping will set you back around 2k. plus handling whilst still in japan, duties, etc etc. so expect around 3-3.5k ontop of what you buy it for in japan.
what do you want to import ? id probaly look at picking something up locally.
