4agze Ae71 -> T18 Diff & tail shaft confusion
|

Im putting a T18 diff in the Ae71, and im using the back half of the T18 tail shaft. I need to know if either the sprinter or Ae71 front half of the tail shaft will fit and connect upto the T50 ill be using (T50 connected to Ae101 4agze)
Reason i ask is i have been told alot of different things - such as the sprinter front half will fit, then it wont fit, then it will.. gah im getting confused.
hope this makes sence / ive given enough information.
Thanks in advance people

it depends on what the T50 is from.
If the T50 is from an AE71 or AE86, then you should be OK using the front half of an AE71 tailshaft with the rear half of a TE72.
If the T50 is from a TE72, then you need to use the WHOLE TE72 tailshaft.
You can tell the difference as the AE71/AE86 T50 has more teeth on the OUPUT shaft of the box.
Dont forget to grab the handbrake cables as well
TO be honest, i think what you are doing is a BAD idea, unless its not a permanent solution. I have been busting diffs and am slowly busting a T50 behind a stock 4A-GE (granted it gets lots of *love*).
I would personally be going for a W55/7/8 and a much stronger diff than a T series behind a 4A-GZE. The T series gear is just PISSWEAK in comparison! Its like using a FWD 4A-C g'box with your AE92 4A-GZE... .its just not up to the task!
But your choice

Hey
Wow, thanks for all of that - much apreshated.
Reason we are not going for the W55+ is because at this point in time, its just being built to be a road car - but a bit of a nippy road car at that. Its not going to have its guts dumped out at every light, and there most defiently will not be any burnouts / harsh clutch dumping...dumb crap that will break it front, right and center.
But who knows, in a few years when the car gets regestered again, and if track work comes into the equasion, the im sure we would go ahead and change things to make it adaquate to suit that situation. But for now, i cant see how normal, every day driving to and from various events is going to break the car.
But thanks again for all your comments, they have been seriously note'd !!
Cheers
Matt

it'll break, even with normal everyday driving!
looking at the two boxes side by side (t50 and w58), its like comparing a Bi-Plane to an F15. Well maybe not so harsh... but the T50 is puny by comparison.

I can testify to both the gearbox and diff breaking
A T50 and T diff will last OK, if they're in good order, behind a 4AG that's treated the way my mother would. Then again, not that many of them are in good order these days...
