Hello my name is mortello jones a 4a enthusiast from Jamaica. I drive a 2000 JDMCorolla GT(Black Top 20 valve 6spd manual). I want to go forced induction but im not sure if i have all the parts and info for a successful/reliable setup. I have a few questions i'd like to ask: What turbo is best for doing this (I want 350 - 400 hp). Is the 20v head strong enough to take boost or will i have to modify it? Which ECU/EMS to use?
Here are my plans:
4AGZE bottom with 20 valve head
LSD GearBox
Front mount intercooler
Supra TT Fuel pump
Supra Injectors
+ Whatever else u recomend
Thanks a Million In Advance
Mortello

that is a hell of a lot of power from a 4age..
mate of mine has one that is around 330hp, and it had a heap spent on it to get that power.... custom forged pistons and rods
cams, ecu hybrid turbo etc etc. not saying it cant be done but it wont be cheap. or all that reliable for a road car.
the 20v head is fine, just get 4agze rods and pistons, the 20v crank is the same as the 4agze.
but realisticly id be aiming for 250-300 max.
if you really want over 300hp look at doing a 3sgte conversion

I Totally agree with this dude, with that much power in a front wheel drive, ull be slippin and slidin all over the shop, u wont real power spend the same amount on a rwd corolla...

yes 4agze pistons are forged.
my mates set up is kinda secret, its a race car
it has the above parts, running a version of the t04 (i think) turbo, link ecu and lots of time spent tuning and trailing different parts. its only about 7.5:1 comp as it was desigend to run 25-30 psi, hence the exspensive custom parts. due to a rule change he is forced to run 18psi so he is probably going to use 4agze pistons. have to see how that goes.
his one has been dynoed at 204kw at the wheels. which is 274ish hp. he runs a rwd set designed to handle the power with slicks, and still gets wheelspin in 3rd while running 12s, you want to run more than that through the front??
no way.
for a drag car maybe but no way will that be safe in a road car. an lsd wont make it any safer. i seriously think you should lower your goals, not only will it make it cheaper, but u will then be able to use that power. i reckon my stock 20v will beat a 400hp fwd corolla in a drag race. while its still tryign to get traction ill be crosing the line!!

Actually, i'm pretty sure he is/was using a T28 for the above specs.
I agree with many of the others here. That type of power in a fwd will be pretty insane. Having said that, my setup is around 300hp and its a pretty reliable setup but full boost in 1st, 2nd or 3rd will lightup the tyres no worries and that is also with an lsd. I'd hate to think what 400hp would be like. Would be fun tho.

400 thru the front wheels sounds like fun - (that will be about 300hp at the wheels?).
There was an EP 6X Starlet in our club that turned 190kW at the wheels - runs early 12's if my memory serves me correctly.
I would choose the small port 4A over the 20V as (from my understanding) they tend to make better air speed and therefore torque. You will need to pay close attention to the assembly of the bottom end, nitriding the crank, a set of rods (Eagle H beam?), forged pistons, balancing etc. The top end will most likely need to be revised as far as - cams, valve springs, intake and exhaust manifolds will need to be top line. Finally a turbo aimed at 400hp will be easily up to the task, turn the boost up (25-30psi)and use good fuel (see VP racing fuels web site).
Have fun and don't hurt yourself or any one else.

the rigoli guys were making huge power with 20v heads on ZE bottom ends many years ago
i dont think this is an entirely unrealistic goal
all the best for your project!
