From the left I am a newcomer. I've been around the forum for longer than registered but I only mostly read for research.

I notice people that have only joined this month and they have higher classification because of post numbers. I found posts that were just crap, adding nothing useful to forums. A person could put a million crap posts in The Outhouse and be a forum junkie and know nothing about Toyotas.

Amount of posts does not tell anything useful about the person. Some may take this as a level of experience or knowledge. I say get rid of it. Time registered gives some idea of the experience of the person or whether they can be trusted in a transaction. Better is to research all activities within forums if you can not gauge the knowledge, reliability of the person from your experience in the forums. No guarantees.

Yes you are right. The post count below the nicknames was removed for this reason.

To me the word under the user name means nothing. It's just a very rough indication of how many posts a user has made.

As with any situation in life just because a person says a lot doesn't mean they know anything and in fact commonly means the opposite.

The names in no way convey a level of knowledge. If they are interpretted this way then so be it but I think if a person takes information as fact because the person saying it is a "forum junky" then they will have problems no matter what.

The names are there so that our members can get an indication of their contribution to the comunity. This doesn't mean that they have all been good contributions just that they have made a contribution rather than just lurking and adding nothing to the forum.

I'm not saying lurking is bad, I'd much rather have someone lurk than post useless, or worse incorrect information. I'm just answering your question.

I think its worthwile keeping the forums junkie etc. classification because when you consider it along with how long they have been registered you can tell who is a post whore.

e.g. someone who registered in Nov 04 and is already a forums junkie is obviously a post whore.

Is it possible to have posts in, say, the Outhouse, and ForSale sections NOT count towards your post count?

This would mean that people who only post in these sections (which would be a good 25-50% of posters) remain newcommers/occasionals for ever.

Just a thought.

it means jackshit and for the people that acutally start taking notice of i suggest find another way to measure your dick
