ae82 cv boot replacement Thu, 30 December 2004 01:09 Go to next message
Hey,

I am trying to replace the split outer CV boots on my car. I now know why the boots are $45 and the new CVs are $300, the job of replacing the shaft is much easier than the boot!

I have pulled the shaft out of the hub and taken (OK cut) the old boot off. I can see all the bearings etc in the joint. I cant work out how to put the narrow end of the boot on because I cant work out how to pull the joint appart.

Am I looking for a circlip or something in the joint?

Does anyone have an exploded diagram of a rolla CV?

Or can quickly explain what to do next?

While I start the other side!!

If there's not too much crap in there you can just clean it up and use a stretch type boot so you dont have to seperate the joint. Turner driveshafts at brookvale have them. The boot is $20 and the cone that allows it to slip over is about $25.

ALso get the tool to do up the steel bands.

I am in Adelaide, its also a bit hard to drive now! If I knew that this bit was going to take as long as it has I would have ordered the strechy boots over!

thank you,

I took the inner off / appart and there was the circlip!

knock the inner bearings off the shaft, slide old boots off, new boots on, regrease, reassemble.

done!
