just a quick q. the left outer cv boot on my st184 has given up the ghost. ive bought a new boot and was in the process of dissasembling it today when i realised i didnt have a big enough socket to whip the hub nut off. that problem will be solved tomorrow im borrowing a mates sockets who does have one big enough.

is there any siggestions on what/how i should pull things apart to just change the boot.

Search around a bit... this is what I posted before, hope it may help:

If there's not too much crap in there you can just clean it up and use a stretch type boot so you dont have to seperate the joint. Turner driveshafts at brookvale have them. The boot is $20 and the cone that allows it to slip over is about $25.

ALso get the tool to do up the steel bands.

That was precisely it.

If you are able to use a stretch boot there is not much to it.

Undo bolts to hub (you can leave steering arm attached), including 2 strut bolts and in the case of my corolla there were 2 or 3 little bolts that bolted the hub to lower control arm. Where people find it difficult is seperating the joint itself (need to put in vice etc), once you get the shaft out of the car (which I have not done). If you use the stretch boot the shaft doesn't need to come out of car.
