Trueno pricing Fri, 18 October 2002 04:25 Go to next message
Being new to this forum, be nice...

Okay, having a good look around AE86 Trueno's seem to sell for around $10K, but is it worth it?

I've found one coming in from Japan with:
Two tone black and white
AE92 4AGE with 272 deg HKS Cams and Sprockets
Cusco 2 way LSD
Kei Office Coilovers
RS*R Extractors and full stainless Exhaust System
14" Watanabes
8 point roll cage
FRP Rear Hatch (Stuffed if I know what that is)
TRD Front Bar Extension

Probably get it for $12K + delivery to sydney ($600)

What do you think?

It's got a weird set of lights....maybe it looks better in the metal.
Anyone figure out what the FRP Rear Hatch means?

In other words, its made out of fibre-reinforced plastic so its going to be lighter and wouldn't rust...now why hasn't someone gone into mass production for a A6X version???

Only thing I'd add is that you'd probably drive around the city & there's bound to be some guy pointing back saying 'look at that Initial D wanker'... Confused

Oh yeah ... and a Fujiwara Tofu Shop sticker would make it go faster and do gutter runs as well ... Laughing

BTW, Sprocket, that rear end is actually the Jap Levin lights & colour scheme so it looks different from the Oz spec Sprinter.

Nice car though ... wish mine was like that ... Crying or Very Sad

its a "kouki" rear end thats why it looks odd to you

the aussie spec sprinters have a trueno type I or type II rear end (or more commonly refered to as "Zenki" type = meaning "first" in japanese) the Zenki is the one with the red "sprinter" above the right side light. these were on cars released form 1983 to 1985 (and also in all of the 3 door sprinters releasd in AUS)

the one you think has a funny bum is a "kouki" or type III rear end, slightly different but closer to the Levin type rear lights. these were released in cars from 1986 and 1987.

one of the things that is odd to me about the car you posted is that it is a Trueno Kouki front end, but has Levin Zenki rear lights. maybe its had a bingle and the lights were easier to find?

other differences between types of sprinters are that you will notice are the front indicators on a "Zenki" are mounted in the front bumper. the "Kouki" type cars have them on the front corners of the bumper in a two tone white and orange combo. also the area between the bumper and the grille part of the front end is black on a Zenki car, but on the Kouki it is white (like in the image of the one you have posted).

there are subtle differneces in the interior also, but only quite small. the console design was close to identical within all model types of the AE86.

hope that explains it.

I know that car, it's the one C-RED keep saying they're bringing in... gord, if i had the $ i know i'd be buying it.

p.s. keep the tofu shop stickers off it, and lay big fat black marks in front of anyone who passes comment on you being an 'initial d wanker'.

That's the one! You could have found that out by tracing the web address of the pictures I posted up.

I'm not too sure about the car anymore.... it's nice and all, and it does have the works, the thing about the price is that it costs around $6K just to bring the car in from o/s with all the fees and compliance costs and cartage. So basically you're picking up a car worth $5K for $10K after it comes in here.

Better to keep your eyes open for a Trueno for sale in Syd from someone who's had it for a while and can't seem to sell it into the normal "Sprinter" market.

They are worth the price, it's just a bit more of a specialist buyers category.

12K+ is a tad much...but with all the gear in there, it could somehow be justified
I think it looks really cool! Cool
FRP hatch is good too cos you dont have to worry bout rust!! Smile
And anyone who says 'look at that Initial D wanker' would actually be jealous cos most ppl i know would say if that's the original thing, it's fknhorn!!! Evil or Very Mad
Unless you are patient enough, there's not going to be a lot of imports for sale. If they are, they could be snapped up really quickly.
If I had the money, I would get it!!! Smile

AE86Drift...hehe..Mr Encyclopedia! Smile

TypeIII Levin tailights are preferred by more ppl ...prob bcos it's easier to get and something different to the 'sprinter' labelled ones.
I've got kouki type Levin lights on my Levin GTV, but also have a spare set of the Zenki rear lights with the centre console. Yep, it's a 3 piece set.
Also have a incomplete set of Zenki Trueno front possibly for sale at a right price. Missing right guard and bumper.

Hope to see this car around!! Smile
