BHG in 5M supra- do i fix it or get a 7M?

hi folks,
my curse (killing engines on holiday drives) is still with me - after studuously flushing the cooling system, replacing the pneumatic water tap, removing the last vestiges of emission control and vigorously cleaning all the windows - the 5ME has returned these favours by blowing its head gasket.
i've got lovely white gunk in the oil filler cap, lots of bubbles at the radiator cap and lots of steam (and odour of coolant) at the exhaust tip - from these clues, we can reliably deduce that the head gasket is fuked.
the situation: i've got 2 weeks before i get back to work, my other car is already off the road, i have most of the tools for a BHG here, i can get an engine crane with some difficulty and to get any new parts i'll have to catch the bus or pay for couriers.
the options:
1- partial VRS kit (manifolds, rocker cover and head gasket) with minimal head work
2- replace with 7M-GE (using existing bellhousing/flywheel/clutch/p-plate)
what would you do?
(and i'm stuck in brisbane, all my family and my partner are up at Maleny so it's just me and the cat drinking beers on the deck - what a fuken fabulous NYE).

... i don't suppose anyone's bought a HG for one of these from Repco lately? any ideas of list prices?

I was in the same perdiciment last year  but this year I chose to keep the MA61 off the road for the next few days coz a fuel delivery problem...
If you have a 7M-GE sitting in the back yard fully prepped and ready to go in then now is the reason to put it in
But if you don't... Fix the boat motor and get it running... A mate done his 5M-E a few years ago and it set him back AUD$400 though I don't know what he replaced but it did have BHG.

here's my predicament then - v8_ma61 has an unused 7MGE sitting in his backyard at the moment and all it needs is a precautionery re-tightening of head bolts and then it's ready to run

good luck breaking that rock, getting that 7m-ge off him is like trying to make a female not want to get married!.

ah... but that will be his problem (e.g. "why does my fuken fone keep ringing") not mine 
but yes... NYD is not the time to be sourcing replacement engines...

ahhh youd be referring to the 10 or 12 beers i had at my birthday party that nite last year?
yeah i was pretty smashed....
but as for this morning, sleeping and recovering from a bottle of bacardi battle in bed with the girlfriend was a higher priority than reading a car forum...
The 7mge...hmm...whats it worth to you? I spose i dont really have a use for it if i want to go a 2jz in the future?

 oh REALLY blake! (how long did I spent trying to pry that 7M from ur grasp?!)
Yeah, and charles if my 7mge thats at bens grows legs I'll know who's knee caps to break! (OH NO! if you get blakes 7M i'll have to go looking for a new front sump! or try and get my MTEU one back so I can run the oil cooler  )
Oh and johal, that 1jz aint going anywhere Getting it to putting in stage in 2 weeks might be pushin it really... (put the turbs on, finding PS and AC for it, front sump...little other bits that are missing still)
(hands off my junk everyone!) 
BTW I think you should just go the 5me re HG, all you really need is a HG (just goo the ex and inlet...), esp considering you don't really have aspirations to keep the bad boy....

yup - fix time it is... the exh gasket had fallen apart- had many pin leaks all along it and conveniently fell off engine in many peices.
am waiting for wad-cutters to come from Maleny and will make new intake gaskets from petrol-safe gasket paper.
oh what fun...hand made gaskets...how quaint..
yup - ma61 pump-mobile will be sold before the next 6 months of rego runs out...
